Your very first battle against any barbarian soldier, you're always guaranteed victory. Even with :spear:

This is not my observation. I've been beaten by barbarian units in my first battle with them quite a number of times. eg scouts eaten my animals in their first battle, and also barb warriors beating my warriors in their first battle. (Though in those cases there might have been animal battles before so it wasn't the first battle against barbs in that game)

This thing with the spear against the tank is also something I've observed too - I've played with the world builder in the same way - actually I did a Spanish bear against a barbarian modern amor - and won. Can't remember what thread I posted that in. Don't think it was this one. Quite a while ago now. I concluded there was a bug. That was vanilla, one of the earlier patches. However clearly this screen shot does not come from vanilla!

Like 1 said, it depends on the level. According to the pdf reference sheet, it is

5 free wins vs. barbs at settler
4 free wins vs. barbs at chieftain
3 free wins vs. barbs at warlord
2 free wins vs. barbs at noble
1 free win vs. barbs at prince
Above prince, no free wins.

what would be good was if that also applied to AI civs...

I don't know about that, they get a bonus anyway (50% is it?), and they play all games at noble difficulty parameters I think.

Ah OK, that might make things a bit easy though ;)

Back to the funnies anyway!!!

no comprende...

he's referring to the american (or global) crisis of 1929, caused by the crash of Wall Street. at that time, inflation was really high and poverty increased a lot, due to the inflation. The problem was only solved later, when Roosevelt proposed the "New Deal" and became the US president, but that was only some years later, and lots of people suffer from the crisis in between. In the screenie, the inflation problem was solved right in the same year (1929).

to more details, the wiki should have more details

World Builder?

No, just a really big tech lead:) Got a lucky break REAL early, 4 barb spearmen captured the khmer capital and only city then abandoned it. I found it and made it into a fantastic GP farm. Didn't war with anyone until I got combustion, but had a HUUUUGE stack of siege, axes to promote to CRIII Redcoats, and Redcoats to garrison. After I promoted ~10 galleons to transports i started building destroyers. I already destroyed about half his fleet when I surrounded him, but I didn't want him getting away:lol:

These guys have been taking lessons from the Iraqis!

I just captured Lisbon last turn...

"Hey, I know, let's poison the water in our own capital! Maybe we can loot the hospitals and museums too, before the enemy gets the city under control!"
