I had one once where Montezuma was offering me 100 gold for currency, unfortunately the screenshot command didn't go through so I have no picture of it.

"Cyrus... Hmm, been a while. Let's see if these Immortals are half as good as they're said to be on Civ Fanatics."

"Errrr... Hello ? Anybody out there ?"

And there you're really, really happy the AI can't rush...

Its not funny at all. Monti has researched most of currency and wants to cut off the 5-or-so turns he needs to finish researching the tech.

When I was new to this I always neglected, thinking "are they kidding - 100 gold, thats a joke - it cost me 1200 beakers (or so)"?

Later, when I had the espionage knowledge of BTS, then knowing what they where researching at the time and how many turns they had left, I understood these offers, accepting them mostly now.
Of course not if I am in a race for some milestone tech/wonder etc. or if its a dangerous foe. But usually I can use the money they offer.

And don't forget: if you dont trade it him for 100 gold that turn, someone else might trade it to him this or next turn - instead of you. Plus you dont get the max +4 fair trade diplo bonus...

I don't have a screenshot, but in my last game i saw this:
Lincoln adopts slavery:cry:
Montezuma adopts pacifism:lol:
Genghis Khan adopts pacifism:confused:
Isabella adopts free religion:goodjob:
you cannot continue work on the collosus, work has now begun on the collosus

I think the funny thing is : how can he offer 100 gold if he doesn't know what currency is ?

l I like this more subtle explanation a lot - its pretty funny! :D

Nevertheless: even if you dont have currency yet, sometimes civs offer you to buy their techs as well as yu can offer them a price...

In history, lots of non-currency tribe-people accepted currencies, as they knew very well other merchants, even of other "high-teched" trading nations would accept it for their goods - even if the natives local natural products were allready sold before (to other merchands) or periodically short; in this way money acted as a non-decaying "plant". The Drachma of ancient times is an example for this process - the whole Mediterranean accepted it, as far as I know, even nomads and agricultural tribe people without own currency.

The tech itself is - as I think - representing the mathematically process of calculating the worth (and therefore measurements of the constition) of the coins as well as their amount. This is attended with a developing of a basic economical (thus political) strategy.

In that kind of situation I just say, Sorry, mate, you've got X turns to go, I'm not rushing it through for you when you are close to a breakthrough yourself.

Though Wang Kon last time round was offering me obscene amounts of money (1000+g) for very little in return (I later vassalised him); he got his own back when he demanded 8000 gold and Gunpowder for Physics, which I'd overlooked, so he must deal with pretty strange exchange rates or be suffering from hyperinflation...

So what was this golden age about then?

And nothing quite a Colbert reference to generate lulz

I'm confused.

1. Isn't Persia's color blue? Why do you have arabias color?

2. How did the other four civs die so early?

1/ I'm using the BAT Mod, with graphical changes including ethnic diversity for the units, flags changes, border color changes, etc.

2/ I killed them, with Immortals.

Persia starts with Agriculture and Hunting, so you only need to research Animal Husbandry and the Wheel, then you can begin to kick butts if you have horses in your capital's cross. Your enemy needs to have Hunting, Bronze Working and copper to stop you (Pacal excluded who can build his spearman UU without copper), and he needs to have them fast. In this game only England managed to connect the copper and build a spearman before I attacked them, but that didn't save them, I just had too many Immortals.

Yeah, that should have been fairly obvious. You didn't think barbs took them all out, did you? Congrats on taking over the continent, Navarre :goodjob: I just hope you don't have raging barbs on - there's an awful lot of fog out there :scared:

I didn't know Immortals were that good...plus I am unskilled in the way of early rush.

Anyway, The Great Wall should save him!

I've got some images...

Not really funny but I've never see this formation before:

This is when I knew my power rating was too low

Actually, I think he was just bitter I was gonna beat him to Liberalism

A OCC as Elizabeth, btw. I had an awesome start with wheat, three flood plains, cow, and tons of plains hills!

I didn't know workers were capable of self defense. Too bad it won't let me use them.

What deal?

Ghandi, I gotta ask you this...are you on incense?

Spoiler what caused this :
Someone asked me to stop trading with Ghandi just before he popped up, so Ghandi was in "not talking to you"-mode but was already on his way to ask something of me. As you can see from the minimap, same thing happened twice this game. :crazyeye:
