Hi Folks,

This game is getting tense!

I am playing on a large map as the english I am in the last age with egypt, india and russia building the space craft, the other 2 are out of it.

I only had 4 wars, 2 I did not start (But i finished it! asta la vist germans, get off my continent!) the others I declared first.

I cant get a diplomatic victory even though only the russians are furious, how do I get people to vote for me, I can only get people to be polite to me.

And I am losing the space race I can build faster but I need to close the science gap by 4 or so turns, any ideas on a short burst?

PS I have nukes in place to see they wont get to far ahead!

Seems like you're heading for a Spaceship victory.

1. Trade for those Spaceship technologies that you don't have yet... if they are willing to trade, that is. It's OK to get into slightly unfair deals since this is the last stage and winning the Spaceship victory is the prime objective. Luxuries and gold should be a able to buy you some techs from friendly civs, I think.

2. Since its a large map, the AI civs are probably building their SS components in core cities deep inside their territory. Warring won't stop the AI without hampering your own efforts. Of course, if there are SS techs that you have and the AIs don't - don't trade them away.

3. If you are a Religious civ and not a Democracy, do a revolution and change government to Democracy. 1 turn of Anarchy shouldn't hurt too much. Also, it was discussed before that the AI does not switch its wonder-production to defense even on the imminent loss of the city.

4. If your still don't get the maximum research speed of 4 turns per tech, then I suggest individually setting the professionals in your cities - make as much scientists as possible.

5. Prebuild to anticipatre SS parts that will become available, just in case the AIs beat you at production.

6. Remember to maintain a goodly-sized army to deter AI civs from attacking you during the space race.

7. If you've not built libraries and universities, build as many of them as possible.

I am well up on libary and universty production most of my major cites have all the city buildings

its about 1820 and I have 70% of my tax rate in science with 10% on luxury.

I make only 70 gold a turn now, I will have to scale my army down a bit, but the other lesser civs have no gold or luxuries that i am not already trading.

I cant seem to create enough gold in this game, and the other civs seem to be really advanced for the 1800's on reagent level, I though I had it in the bag but i cant get the tech's.

my cash is about 1000 and I need 3800 for a spy mission,

It dont look good!

You say your comptetitors are polite with you.
Make ROP, move your armies near their capital. Sneak attack both capitals in the same turn. Capturing them destroys all the work on the space ship. Then you are free to go ahead with your advantage in SS parts build. I guess you can survive in a defensive war but as long as you don't lose the capital and core cities you are on the verge of a space launch.

Good luck:goodjob:

Of course you may not want to ROP betray the AI so just declare war and try to capture those capitals.

Try getting MPPs with everyone but the second contender in the vote, then declare war on them 2 turns before the vote BUT DO NOT ATTACK!!!!! Provoke them though, place a weak unit near a strong one of them in your territory or so. They will attack, the MPPs kick in - voila - everyone loves you :D

several options:
1)one of the components requires synthetic fibres. if they don't have it, don't worry about it. prebuild the components with palace or something (u can prebuild with normal units/improvements and take everyone off the tiles in the last turn to prevent completion while waiting for the tech).
2)save a leader from a good tank assault to build the most expensive component in a worthless city to save core cities for other parts.
3)back to the synthetic fibre component - i think it's the most expensive part so when u get synthetic fibres u have at least 6-10 turns to upgrade some MA and move them to the capitals. if u have nukes, nuke the capitals and move in with the MA.
4)if u have enough nukes but can't mobilize in time, nuke the capitals and the areas around them to disconnect them from resources. this will buy u enough time to catchup.

ratfinkz,

Ignore the spy mission as it is a waste of time and cash.

Trading techs and prebuilding probably consititute your best options at this point.

Your tech research should be maxed out and you should not need any luxury spending if you have played a balanced game. Calculate out the remaining turns of research and let you economy go deficit if it will drop the research time by a turn or two.

Look at your cities and sell off all the improvements that are not working for you:
1) If you do not have smith's trading company, burn all the airports and harbors except for just one or two to keep things tradable.
2) If you do not have Sun Tzu's burn all the bearracks,
3) If you do not have the Pyramids burn all the granaries.
even if you have SunTzu's and the pyramids tax your memory and go to the towns where you built these improvements directly and burn them for cash anyway, the wonders will give them back to you for free.
4) corrupt cities on the fringe that have courthouses and police stations but still are 50% corrupt - burn the courthouse, police station and bank and shut those puppies down to just be placeholders.

The real questions to solve this problem should probably have been asked 1000 years ago.

Good luck,

i know the reputation will sink but...who cares!
nuk them all!
it's a matter of national supremacy!

Set science to 0.
Buy ROP with Spaceship Civs.
Trade for as many techs as you can for gpt.
Raze their capitals using ROP.
All of your gpt deals will be cancelled.
If you are lucky, the other civs will switch to communism.
Hope the war goes well.
Set science to max and race for space.

I've always wanted a game of mine to end up with that scenario. It hasn't happened yet, but that's what I'd do if it did.

You might also sign MPPs with a couple of Civs that also have spaceships and then attack only one of them. That way they won't all be at war with you, and you might still get them to switch to communism.

If you choose to nuke a capital to prevent the s/s launch, be sure you capture it w/ your forces. Otherwise, the s/s remains intact. Also, if your able to disconnect the capital from its resources, the civ cannot complete the build, unless its on the last s/s component. Also, if you disconnect it, make sure its harbor (if coastal) and airport is destroyed.
