first off, admins, if i have put this in the wrong place--sorry, but i don't know where to put it where it will be seen.
i have seen the tutorial on how to a civ, govt, etc., but is it possible to actually change the game rules? for example, i want civs at war to be able to use each other's roads; i want to allow bombers to destroy ships, etc. is this possible and if so, how can i do it? i would _greatly_ appreciate any help wit this. civ 3 is a great engine, but i have a lot of problems with the details.
thanks for any help, and again, admins, if this is misplaced, sorry, i am just trying to get some info--let me know where a better place to post it might be if this place is unacceptable.

I will try to help where I can ;)

First, using of enemy road during a war is not possible as this is hard coded and part of the game design.

Second, it is possible to kill all unit with bombardment, be it land or sea unit. All you need to do is to adjust the bombardment strenght to a higher number. A bombardment strenght of 20 is enough to kill a ironclad while 30 is enough to bring battleship to red but not killing it (this is what I have tested so far). So killing unit with bombardment is not a problem. However, the unit MUST be kill with the first bombardment. Once a unit reach red (ie 1 hp left) you can no longer bombard it and therefore can no longer kill with bombardment.

Of course, one thing to remember is the AI get what you get too. So giving a high bombardment to a certain unit might just work against you :D

no, there must be a part of the code that says "country A can use country B's roads only if country A and country B have a free movement agreement"
why can't i just add in "or if they are at war" (in code)--now, i dont know how to code that
i was hoping someelse did =0)
to be honest, that is one thing about the game I REALLY HATE
i have actually been playing civ2 because invasions are so annoying. my tanks move slower than their infantry when i invade! that it is just repugnant.
but thanks a lot for the info! i may just try to mod civ 2. there a few things i would want to fix about it, but they might be smaller fixes than to civ 3 (in terms of code compexity)
thanks again!
and please, any one else, leave what info you can!

Actually you can kill by bombardment if the enemy is in the red zone. I only did this twice and the unit was fortified in a city and i used a cruise missle. :D I hope this helps alot!

I have no idea how to change the hard code for road movement in hostile territory, nor do I think it entirely realistic that a unit can drive through enemy territory at full road speed. However, it is very easy to increase the speed of any unit using the in-game editor which would both end some of your frustration and be more realistic. As I play on huge or fully expanded maps, I have increased the base movement rate of pretty well everything but ancient and middle ages ground units and am very happy with the results. I also dialed up the base road movement to 5 but guess that you would not be interested in that.
