The next update is getting close. Time to start thinking about what to do for the next gauntlet.

We always want to get ideas for new gauntlets. Although, please try to limit requests for variants that would require code changes to score. Time for that kind of thing is limited right now. ;)

Also, we need to get peoples opinion on running a series of gauntlets featuring all the new Civs introduced in Warlords and BTS. We hesitate to do that as it excludes people that don't have those expansions. What is the right mix of specialized gauntlets vs. all expansion ones?

It seems that there are 3 gauntlets running at any time. If one of the three involved a BtS or Warlords leader, I don't think that is unreasonable for those who only have Vanilla.

:agree:

OK, I have both expansions! But having 1 spezialised gauntlet out of 3 still leaves 2 gauntlets for those who only have Vanilla.

As for new ideas ... I'm quite new here, so I don't know what you had already, and all ideas are new and challenging for me :crazyeye:

This might be entertaining :mischief:

OCC Archipelago Religious Win with Hatshepsut & no PA's

Opponents
Toku Monte Isabella Justinian Saladin Boudica Ragnar Shaka

Rain. Ouch, you are a sadist.

I have had this one running through my head since the last prompt for gauntlet ideas.

What about a game as the Greeks vs all their Mediterranean Horse-units. You got Persia's Immortals, Egypt's War Chariots, Hannibal's Numidean Calvary (or whatever they are). You got all those Horse based unit versus the Greek Hoplite...let's see who's the best!!

Civ: Greece
Opponents: Hatty, Ramses, Hannibal, Darius, Cyrus. Hell, throw in one Rome, one Celts and a Babylon
Always War?
Map: Inland Lake, of course.

OR

A Prince or higher game where you start as an Old World civ, either Sitting Bull, Pacal, Monty or HC and you have to win a cultural, always war versus: Spain, Portugal, Netherlands, Vikings, France and two Englands. Or something to that effect. Map: Continents or the Big/Small or Med/Small......mods will figure that out. Possible Classical or Medieval start?

OR,

You play as a European civ and need to get both Mongols, Korea, Khmer, Japan, and both Chinas to give you a diplomatic win. To simulate a Silk Road feel, throw in both Ottomans, Saladin and the Indias. Is that a large map or huge.

OR

Battle or African civs, Mali, Zulu, Ethiopia (and/or Carthage/Egypt) for domination of a Oasis or Huge Arid map....terra or whatever...just big and arid.

Whatever we do, can we make them some good ones? I am moving back to Canada in a month and won't play for a while as I travel. Not only that, but I will likely be getting my tonsils removed and therefore would REALLY love some quality games to try while, poor old me has to miss a couple of days of work.:D:mischief::lol::king:

 Just trying to come up with a challenging scenario :mischief: I like those ideas you suggested as well :) Certainly more historical flair in your suggestions :goodjob:

What about a gauntlet that tries to equalise various victory conditions, to make a wide range of strategies competitive. Also trying to reward someone with a balanced civilization (ie not a cultural victory with 1 warrior in each city, nor an early UU rush where you stop research and negative gpt).

I thought about this for a GMajor:

Always war
Standard Map
Quick speed (to make military victories more difficult)
Monarch
Any map

All victories types
Highest score wins

Wouldn't a warmongering dom or conquest game with a overpowered early UU always rack up top scores in this scenario if you can choose the map & opponents ? Maybe I'm missing something since I don't play 'always war' ?

Not trying to shoot down your idea, just don't understand how AW would equally affect the different victory types. I think it would tilt everything in favor of conquest/dom VC's.

I suppose I was counting on Quick speed and the standard map size to be the great equalizer. Maybe no city razing could also be added to make an early domination/conquest difficult.

As an American civ, always war with all these England. Throw in a French and NA civ. This one start in Industrial. haha.

I kind of combine one of WilliamOfOrange's ideas with Jimmy Thunder's for G-Major. I hope I got the spirit of things right. ;)

As the Major was pretty BTS specific, I left the G-Minor as a more mundane offering accessable for a larger audiance. We can do some of those other ideas over time.

Keep up the suggestions. :goodjob:

How about a Diety Religious Victory after the current Diety Cultural game is done?

I'd like to see OCC cultural. We had one of those in Vanilla+Warlords. It would be interesting to compare those results with the BTS finish dates in order to establish how much more intelligent the AI really is in BTS.

Can you get an OCC cultural with just the one city, or do you need a PA to finish a cultural game?

You need a PA, I believe.

How about an archipelago conquest OR domination involving Portugal, Netherlands, Carthage and Vikings.

I mentioned this somewhere else, what about a BTS high score game, any difficulty, Inca allowed? BTS offers such high score potential a gauntlet would go a long way there IMO.
