Something I had never thought of before but just happened to accidentally do in my current game: 1 gold upgrade on any unit due to over 100% reduced upgrade cost. I didn't realize it until I went to upgrade a Cruiser thinking it would probably annihilate my gold reserve to upgrade my fleet, turns out not so much. I'm sure other people have figured this out but I figured it would be worth a note for those who don't warmonger a ton.
It involves three components:
1) Imperialism - 35% reduced upgrade cost once you have the tree fully unlocked
2) Pentagon - 33% reduced cost
3) Autocracy's Military Industrial Complex - 33% reduced cost
In total you end up with 101% reduced cost, and any upgrade appears to be just 1 gold.
