G-III Pi

I'm playing as Sumeria against 6 sci civs, no SGL's ( i don't need these), 40% of land.
Took first start with a cow, aimed for Rep slingshot, got it in 1350BC.
At 1000BC had 17 towns, 48 pop, 3 settlers and 20 workers.
Entered MA in 900BC, gifted AI to MA and traded for their free techs, sadly none of AI got engineering but i got Theology for free.
In MA AI researched me Engineering, Banking and Astronomy. Built both sci wonders. Started GA in the end of MA with enkidu victory.
Entered IA in 170AD, i had 42towns with pop of 200 and 50 workers, making 950 bpt while in GA. Tech costs are huge, 7400 beakers for Electricity needed.
Buy AI free techs and get Sanitation (not good).
Start war vs Germany for sci farms with mix of horsemen and longbowmen.
Lack of luxes really slows research, have native silks and import gems from Ottomans. Babylon has two extra luxes but untill now they didn't manage to build a harbor!!
Should finish pre 800AD.

Lots of good competition this month. No one has tried out the Ottomans yet?

I'd probably do Persia over ottomans.

Immortals help carve out more land around the time that expansion is done, earlier GA gets you through the slow times in the middle ages...

The Industrial Age got off to a rocky start (and a somewhat rocky ending, but more on that later). I gifted 6 of my 7 scientific rivals up with me – 5 got Steam Power, and 1 got Medicine. I opted not to gift Otto up – I wasn’t sure I really wanted Nationalism anyway, and I was positive I didn’t want him to get it since I was about to declare war on him. I traded for Steam Power and took out a second mortgage on my palace to buy Medicine.

I got Sanitation as my free tech, and my cities were nowhere near spaced enough to consider hospitals. And I didn’t have any coal (but fortunately Otto did).

In 170 AD, I declare on Otto and start my Golden Age by killing a warrior with Hwach’as. Otto’s longbows and spearmen were no match for my knights and later cavalry (once somebody researched Military Tradition for me).

I moved through Otto’s lands quickly and turned his population into settlers to ICS his land for science farms. Since I still didn’t have enough territory, I did the same to Greece. Based on my experience entering the Industrial Age, I left each of them with 1 city to maximize my chances of getting Fission in the Modern Age.

Research through the Industrial Age:

Electricity – 5 turns
Industrialization – 4 turns
The Corporation – 4 turns
Steel – 4 turns
Scientific Method – 4 turns (Golden Age ends)
Refining – 5 turns
Replaceable Parts – finally someone else finished it so my workers could pick up the pace
Combustion – 5 turns
Atomic Theory and Electronics – from Theory of Evolution
Mass Production – 4 turns
Motorized Transportation – 4 turns
Flight – 4 turns

As for the rocky ending mentioned earlier, in 600 AD, just as I was starting Flight, the polite Persians declared war on me out of nowhere. Their military was no threat to mine, but I no longer had the votes necessary to win a diplomatic victory. There was no way Greece or the Ottomans would vote for me, Sumeria was scheduled to be my rival, and I didn’t think Persia would talk peace quickly enough.

I decided I had to eliminate the Ottomans, but their capital was behind a mountain range that nobody had bothered to road through. It took me until the turn after completing Flight to eliminate them, so I had to slow down my UN prebuild – in the end, Persia’s declaration cost me only 1 turn.

Diplomatic victory officially recorded as 650 AD.

I have already made one submission for a 750ad win but wasn't entirely satisfied with that game so started again over the weekend.

Currently playing a game as Sumeria which looks a bit more promising, just entered the industrial in 170ad and producing just over 900bpt, should be able to finish this afternoon before the deadline is up!

Looking at chamnix's industrial research I don't think I will be able to match his date, firstly I got sanitation as free tech and secondly golden age won't start until after Universal Sufferage is built, the prebuild of which won't be ready for around 11 turns (I am using 1000 shield palace so there is some flexibility with the completion date). The only chance is that the ai can get me more than just replaceable parts though I don't hold much hope in that!

Anyone else still have a game on the go?

Congratulations to Chamnix for wining with a 650AD win, Aigburth in 2nd with 750AD and AutomatedTeller in 3rd with 840AD :goodjob:.

The new Gauntlet is here.

Well done Chamnix!

I got to the modern times in 680ad in my final game but unfortunately nobody including myself got fission :(
