G-Major 37

Culture. Three Legendary cities. Think again. ;)

All in all, I do not see OCC much useful for anything quickest except Diplo, and Termitnik in recent Immortal Major has shown that it also can be beaten by multicity approach.

Nope, you think again ;).

Culture is the #1 most common victory submission across my last 16 HoF submissions. MORE than half of those were OCC.

Surely, there must be a way then :crazyeye:.

Remember: OCC with PERMANENT ALLIANCES!

And by quickest, I don't mean finish year. I mean finishing the game in 20 minutes to maybe a half hour. Which you can. Consistently.

Edit: I don't think OCC is good for the earliest finish year for ANY condition, or score for that matter, even with PA. It's just EASY to win with minimal time invested in the game, and sometimes that's the goal.

Holding strong in 3rd place with a 1740 finish! Just barely ahead of TheMeInTeam. I want to give this one another try but I know it's going to take at least a few days, and I'm right in the middle of a different one for HOF settings. Hopefully I'm not too intoxicated to finish that one up tonite, and maybe if I start tomorrow I could give this one another go.

Can't believe JesusIn's time! Plus leftover settlers and GA's...

Settling unclaimed land seems like it'd be hard because late in the game the AI has a lot of culture and it closes it up.

I want to try this again but I dunno if I'll finish in time. Or have the luck I had the first time anyway.

Looks like I just snuck into 3rd with 1730AD.

Decided to play as Catherine (vanilla) as Financial and Creative are both good domination traits, especially on a huge map. Thought the cossack would last the ages as well but forgot that they got nerfed back to strength 15 in the last patch for vanilla, so probably warlords would have been a better option (stable and great generals). Took out three civs using axes/swords/maces/elephants/horse archers/catapults and then purely built cossacks for the rest of the game (with the occasional cannon or courthouse). Even on quick speed took a lot longer than I thought it would.

Hmm not sure whether I will be able to finish my game before the deadline. It's not a competitive time anyway...

Got myself back into the top 3 with a 1550 finish. Played all the same settings, Genghis on pangea, high seas, 17 opponents. This time I didn't warrior rush anyone, I just grabbed as much land as I could and beelined to horseback riding and started spamming keshiks. I didn't get any further than knights, and my economy was pretty much only whatever I got for capturing cities. I automated workers pretty early cause the improvements didn't seem to matter much and they wind up slowing the game down a lot. I did wind up building a courthouse in every city towards the end.

I'm spent, no more huge maps for me.

Lol congrats...this is the strat I used so it's good to see it made top 3 with someone who has a little more patience than I do.

Yeah, scratch that, apparently it wasn't accepted due to "reloading and replaying of turns". I have no idea how that's possible, I played straight up until about 1100 in one session and then loaded it up and finished it. Ah well.

This gauntlet is complete. Results:

Oh no! I run out of time, I was about to beat the #1 position!

I was convinced the date was easily improvable. So I started another game to testproof my ideas and to get to demonstrate myself that I can finish a game in 2 days. Well, I can't.

The game is going much worse than the first one, but I'll finish around 1250AD.

Is the land in a Pangea bigger than the land in the old world in Terra maps? If that is not the case, a charriot domination in a Pangea is much quicker than settling an empty new world.

1410AD finish, very badly played.

It's been a nice change of pace to warmonger for a while. Quick speed made Prince level much more interesting. Great gauntlet!

By the way, I find that the old wisdom "settle all your cities the same turn at the end to claim all the land" for dominations is not true anymore. The increased value of overseas traderoutes in BTS makes it possible to settle as you want, without crashing your economy. Only don't settle too many cities on the same island because of colonies maintenance.

Only don't settle too many cities on the same island
because of colonies maintenance.
btw, state property nullifies colony maintenance as well, not just distance maintenance. I'm pretty sure this was different when bts was released.
(Not that researching communism would have been a wise thing to do in this gauntlet )

/edit: congrats ;)
