G-Major 45

What do people do to prevent a rival's diplomatic victory?

In this gauntlet, the easiest way is to make sure you have enough votes to block them. You should be trying to have the largest empire you sustain.

If you don't build the AP, make sure you spread the AP religion around.

If you razed the city with the UN wonder, could it then be built by another player?

Well, I finally had time to play a game for this gauntlet. Crawled in at 1616 AD. First time I've ever used a corporation. As I played, I realized I was making lots of mistakes due to unfamiliarity. Clearly I need to spend time learning to better utilize them (if I want to play more space races or time victories). I played on Great Plains for all the metals on the western continent, but now that I've skimmed Shannon's posts, I see the power of Sushi too. Lots to learn, probably should go back through this thread and read in detail. But very unlikely I will play a second game.

Sushi Corp is very well for score but for fastest Space it not really accelerates the finish date.

I was using Sushi mostly to allow my best production cities to work more workshops. Since you can't be in State Property and run Mining Inc, working 15+ workshops probably requires some extra food from a Corp. Cereal Mills on Great Plains would do the trick.

Did i lately mention how much i sometimes hate civilization?

Sometimes i just Moderator Action: Expletive removed hate this game. I found a pretty sweet location for my capital - 1 corn, 1 copper, 4 gems, a small access to the ocean and some trees to chop. The horse was a little far away, but i managed to get it anyway. Mansa right next to me, gandhi on a peninsula behind him, the other AIs too far to be an early target, but too close for me to be able to settle instead of attack.... So not a perfect location, but the best i got in a while.

Game starts out wonderfully and all, nothing suprising. I meddle a bit in diplomacy, have mansa declare ghandi before i declare him, etc. What happens? Basically my entire attack force gets wiped out, i fail to capture ghandi's citty. 10 immortals down despite chances ranging between 25% and 80%. Alright, sh't happens, i continue with fresh troops.
What happens a little later? Mansa, who i had been fighting ghandi together with, declares me. Now i'm stuck fighting mansa, and his UUs are a real Moderator Action: Expletive removed to fight, especially all his cities are on hills. It's 1000 BC and i've captured a grand total of 3 sucky cities from ghandi, which are stuck between ghandi and mansa. Mansa has fortified his UUs in his hilly cities, 3-4 per city, and the AIs i got into the war are - as always - doing nothing. And the rng? It keeps on letting me down.

The starting position wasn't perfect, but i so love those gems.... I hate to give up this attempt :-(

My game got accepted this week end... 1704 AD win :). I played pangea with Roosevelt. Pangea wasn't good finally because of the lack of seafoods (I ended up with only mining corp and a late scientific corp , perhaps the ethanol one ). Probably not enough agressive at the start to secure an earlier win, but still a nice game...
Ironically, I chose Roosy for the cheap prod multiplier buildings, planning on a hammer eco, but sticked to cottages in game

Thanks for the discussion guys, It has been really helpfull :goodjob:

Cheers,
Raskolnikov

Congrats to whoever knocked me off the top spot, since we haven't heard from you I'm going to assume it's Ironhead, but am secretly hoping we gained another spacerace fan.

Reveal yourself good Sir!

well it wasn't me! my game is second last now :(

@Bestje: tx for the info! But I am at the worst place! the 4th... wait, this is not the Olympic games :crazyeye:

lol, better than my 6th!
need a few late entries at around about the 2049 AD mark

Woohoo my first Immortal gauntlet!!!!

Too bad it was 150 years later then the next worst result ;)

one day I will have to play an immortal game with more than 1 city. 10gold says I get worse dates if I do though

Congratulations to the winners and everyone who took part :goodjob:

Impressive win, Ironhead. And an interesting starting strategy - why did you build wheel before AH when you couldn't know yet where the horses are?

Am i correct to assume that you popped the warrior you used to attack peter and vicky from a hut? And mining and fishing too? What was your first build in the city then, a worker or a warrior?
(My strategy for this starting location would have probably been to actually research mining first and build a worker in order to make use of the gold, but given the pops from huts that would have obviously been less effective.)

And last but not least, how many immortals did you have when you declared on zaraq? By my calculation i don't see how it can have been more than 3, which seems a bit risky when assuming zaraq had at least 2 archers and slavery for whipping more. Did you really intetionally go for that risk, risking your great starting location for a few turns, or what was the actual situation?

I haven't taken a look at your late game yet, but alone your early game seems out of my league, even when taking into consideration the luck you had with huts. Great job!
