While the general Hall of Fame is an ongoing competition, we like to run time-definite competitions between updates that we call Gauntlets. Standard Hall of Fame rules (*) still apply, but any games meeting the settings will be counted towards the Gauntlet.

(*) Please read the >> HOF rules << BEFORE playing!

Settings:
 • Victory Condition: Domination (though all victory conditions must be enabled)
 • Difficulty: Prince
 • Map Size: Standard
 • Map Type: Inland Sea
 • Speed: Epic
 • Leader: Any
 • Opponents: Any
 • Version: SV5 (1.0.1.217 or greater)
 • Date: 15th April to 1st May 2011
The earliest finish date wins, with score as a tiebreaker.

Domination takes a large place for next month! All gauntlets and Gotm!

Inland sea...how about build 2 armies and join the other side at same time for a win?

epic speed for both the gminor and gmajor? =( =(

It means less tries overall. Must have some really good games quick! For those are not working this is not so bad.

Warmongering, boo.

How are we going to deal with the devs patching out upgrades in enemy territory under Open Borders? Abuse it while you can?

4 armies is better than 2... skip your nearest neighbors and kill them with your reinforcements.

What about going friendly and upgrade in far away lands? (like you did in a past GOTM)

Edit : got beat about this idea lol....but i agree this need to be patched.

Just played a quick game. Finished at turn 144(440 BC). It was a lot quicker than i thought. No RAs and almost no trades, i went for iron working, sit on a 6 iron and went on rampage. Took less than 1h30 of play. Liked it. I will certainly optimize more things and submit more of them in next days. This can be easily beat i'm pretty sure of that. I think sub-120 can be achieved.

it depends on how you plan to go about it...

for pretty straightforward play:

caesar is a good choice, his unique sword has 2 extra strength. i'm currently in first with him (though it won't last) =0
oda has full damage at all times.
alex might work, both his uniques are early and powerful enough to take cities.

Either Askia or Alex is going to take this thing, with the only question being whether or not someone can pull it off with Alex before Chivalry lands through RA.

If you sign 3 ra for cs, currency & chivalry that should be around turn 115?

I gave Rome & Mongolia a shot last weekend but I'm ages away from even finishing before turn 150. Maybe it's wrong to go nc first, then research needed luxury techs and beeline to iw after that? I also run into terrible happiness problems sooner or later because the ai at this level somehow fails to improve the land around their capitals and does a bad job at barbbusting too.

If those uu from Askia/Alex are capable of taking out the cities and healing in a reasonable time they are surely better than swords. Beeline to hbr and any luxury techs afterwards?

I think you're right. Same as you, no RA no trades, done on turn 152. And that was with no iron anywhere close. I had to take over a CS 14 tiles from my cap to get my starting iron, and send a worker with the army and buy a tile to mine it. Took me much longer than 90 minutes, though!

Thanks for your comments in the other thread. MP is the full civ experience. This is killing time till they fix it. :)

P.S. this was with none of the civs mentioned. Though I believe I had more brutes than were strictly useful overall. The under supply had my production at -70% for a while. And they're more expensive to upgrade, so why bother....

I seriously doubt there will be any RAs in the winning game. Yep, I think NC first is wrong too. Take workers with your army or capture them to work luxes in captured lands. :)

i agree on RAs, they're solving a problem that doesn't exist at this level/speed. i won't be surprised if someone proves me wrong though.
NC first can be viable, but if you're going to go for it, i suggest you go for it hardcore.

Askia has no chance, I predict the winner will be sub 100 turns.

Then Alex's CC will win. Melee can't reach distant lands fast enough. I suppose that one other civ has a shot if plain old Horses will get the job done.

Hehe. I was thinking Russia for plain old horses, or Japan.

Alex is good. Horse for the far stuff, foot for the near stuff, with options.

Sub-100? How? Skillderado will help a ton. But still, most of the civs can't really get to real warmongering before at least turn 60. That leaves very little time to clear the board.

All that said, I'm a domination noob, so I have no clue what I am talking about.
