G-Minor III

Hehe. I was thinking Russia for plain old horses

Yup, that's the one if Horses alone will get it done on Prince. More :c5production: and less need to walk a long way to settle enough ponies.

Sub-100? How?

All you have to do is assassinate capitals. This gauntlet boils down to who can get enough force on the ground and in position fastest. Taking some risks will probably be necessary to post the fastest time.

Askia has no chance, I predict the winner will be sub 100 turns.

Your prediction might be true. Finished on turn 91 (have to wait for checking). Had no time for RAs and didn't make any deals. There weren't any special wonders either. I had two lucky breaks with the double culture ruin and iron being really close to the capital.

Sub 100...you really need eldorado. I managed to kill 3 civs before turn 80. But some bad luck(too much barbs on the road, civs going for early GG and spamming warriors) slowed me down too much and i had lost too much units to keep pace fast enough. I can theorically finish before turn 110 without eldorado.

The weird side of my strat is i only use melee units. I don't think going for HBR can accelerate finish time.

Yes that's what i try to have as well. But no luck so far. Great finish time btw. Did you get eldorado?

Nice time Mallow. I just gave this a quick start as Greece and knocked off a CS with warriors. (CS had horse.) Maybe BW and Calender is all that is needed.

I can't possibly see going BW/Calendar being efficient. Somebody lucky with Mining/Masonry luxuries would beat that.

I overlooked a leader earlier. I can see why you all are going with the ground pounders, but I just don't see how it can be faster overall given the 40% comparative move rate during the setup phase.

It seems a person can gift cities to solve happiness. Sailing can help cross the sea.

Technically a person only has to have 2 cities at the end with no AI having there original capitol. I think BW and optics (?) will work.

91 is very impressive. thanks for the target =)
there are so many viable civs for this, i'm not going to have enough time to try them each.

I'm thinking about mass producing(rush buying) scouts...killing capitols with scouts...possible? Yes, with maybe at least 1 warrior. Optimal? hmm...

I can go for luxuries techs right away and sold some of them sooner. Maybe rush buy some swords at the end for last 2-3 civs.

A double hit on culture will get to optics in time, a worker to setup shop and BW implies lux to trade. Sailing hoplites is what I'm working while playing musical chairs with AI capitols.

Edit: Can't tell if Rome can do this yet.

Yes chopping is king in this kind of game. I must admit that optics can do a great job at killing turns.

What about germany? Can they recruit enough brutes to do something good?

Edit : But hey, 91 turns is a hell of a time to beat....everything need to be perfect to go under 90 turns.

Wow, 91 will be hard to beat. Those two lucky breaks are huge boosts. Nice job.

that'd be funny as hell, 6 scout rush ftw. i think their 4 str is going to get slaughtered but let us know.

a good string of luck with germany could take it

A very early GG can really helps to do this. Double culture ruin to skip monument for turns shaving.

Scouts can take unwalled cities on marathon, so long as you have several and they lvl up to get the third survivalism promo. They can hit the city, lose about 5-8 health, then get 3 back the same turn (2 from survivalism and one from an adjacent medic unit). So long as you attack from a hilll/forest, you're usually OK. Or, do it with the Mongols and a Khan - scouts that heal 5 per turn is pretty cool.

However, marathon has twice as many turns as epic... I can't see it being a viable strategy. But they do still help along with warriors - promoted scouts are great at taking a share of the dmg.

That's a real old school China MP strategy you've got going there. Scout rush is probably why China's GG got nerfed.

I never knew a scout rush was possible. What do ya know! There seems to be room for some cheese here. Serial DoWs while trading lux. A lot of cash can be raised to buy an army ... Sell lux, DoW. Repeat on the same turn, etc. This doesn't appear to be outlawed.

Yeah scouts + (China's)GG roughly equal to stock warriors. I mean no terrain penalty can make you save a bunch of turns, and let you attack from non riversided tiles faster. With a lot of them, flanking only help to clean up the single warrior or two wandering around. An upgraded archer is i think necessary. Maybe quickly follow with a second army of scouts with a ''rush buyed'' archer or 2 for the other side?

Archers really help to clean these pesky units before taking a city, or at least hurting them to don't let them attacking you.

But all this is only theorical(i'm at work so i'm gonna try some games only late tonight), but still interesting, i think, because it's all about speed and low build time frame.
(do we really need to build a worker??? steal one from a CS can be sufficient or not?)
