G-Minor LXXI

I made T180 with Spain Eldorado. Unfortunately, one of my first game on Large islands. So WC over T130 was a pain.

Now, Spain, and Poland (also Bab and Korea) seems to have an advantage. I tested them on 4 cities/Tradition. I think, I'll spend the end of this gauntlet with 3 cities Trad/lib.

I really wonder if someone did better than T160.

regarding rerolling, putting desert bias opponents in ie, harun, askia, morroco etc..
with disable start bias helps the chance of getting a desert start

the mountain though on shuffle is really a roll of the dice - or a short capital settler walk

Now, I think Petra is not a such game braker for this gauntlet. Desert folklore, yes.

I in a current game with Korea, on continents. With luck, I met all AI before PP without coastal city. With four plains wheats (two river-side) Sun god is my pantheon. So I need to build Hagia to have a religion (7 turns) and Borobur for missionaries (3 turns).
I think it will be a T170-175 victory (I have coal !).
With Petra, it's also Desert Folklore. That's powerful.
I chose full liberty and tradition to Aristocraty.

In Murphy's law series : One Bab petra with desert folklore chosen by AI around T15, One Korea gems/pearl start with Chichen, Notre Dame and Oracle miss for one turn. And lots of beautiful Pangea with far AI and, of course, lots of barbs.

in my game i went scout -> monument -> scout
I always go scout ➜ monument ➜ shrine ➜ worker. If I get meet religious city-states early enough to get a pantheon before a shrine, I'll sometimes skip the shrine. The second scout is typically purchased with gold from city-state discovery, though I sometimes buy an archer instead.

I've been opening Tradition, so I haven't been building monuments at all. I've just re-rolled for culture ruins. :P
I've been building them even when I go full tradition. Oops. :crazyeye:

Good idea. :goodjob:

Desert Folklore just makes things easy.

You can also get good religion from Stone Circles if you have marble and stone or Tears of the Gods if you have pearls and gems. I had one game with five gems within the range of one city which is kind of insane in terms of gold, production, and religion. And that's before you trade them away.

Three pearls within range of a city is more common though. The problem with that is you get delayed building workboats before they're one turn per boat.

One With Nature might also be viable if the bonus gets doubled by Spain. Never tried it to find out though.

Let us know the result. Didn't think Sun God would be viable.

I had a One with Nature spain game that was otherwise terrible but had both Great Barrier Reef in one of my expos (4 food, 2gold, 2production, 4beakers, 8 faith per tile)... at turn 30 that's like planting an academy and 2 holy sites... too bad that game was terrible otherwise... horrible dirt, no other expo spots, no unique luxes, no one would trade any with me.. but it sure was fun getting 1000g and early beakers. In the right map that would be completely game-breaking. :D

T188. :(
I badly manage GP. I had this usual GS one turn before last spaceship part tech.

I'm always late for plastics. Never had it before T135.

T135 labs isn't late. I think it takes a rather special start to have labs up much sooner than t130. But the more import part is beakers: t135 labs with 1300 bpt > t130 labs at 1000 bpt. So gotta grow more! Or be Korea, Babylon, or Maya for extra beakers.

You're right. T186 with spain. Around 1100 beakers after labs with labs up T140 or so.

Three city, two with mountain. Third with great coral reef (funny with spain), no mountain, no observatory. Size after labs 26,22,20.

I made a T180, also with Spain, 4 cities tall and issue was hammers. Now, it's science.

Dang, I forgot February was a short month, I won't have another chance to try this. I wanted to give Korea a shot or aim for a Petra start with Babylon. Ah well, I'm kinda glad there's a new set of gauntlets coming up. I find Quick highly annoying. :P

Speaking of Quick, I've been playing around with Epic, and the difference between the two really makes me really appreciate how fundamental speed is. Movement rate and attacks per era is *by far* the most important factor in Domination. It's also insanely important for any VC. Being able to scout out the map entirely by the start of the Classical Era completely changes everything. You can scout out the whole map before you even need to plant a settler! Your neighbors' cultural boundaries don't have time to close, you get trading partners (and friends) sooo much earlier, you have time to take out 2x as many barb camps, etc. etc.

It's really a shame that this aspect of the game fundamentally prevents the different speeds from ever being truly balanced. And it's also a shame that the AI is so bad at warfare. I'd love to have battles that stay within one tech era, but right now the AI is so pitiful at combat that playing on Epic or Marathon turns Domination into a complete joke. :(

First attempt at these, deff not breaking any records here.
Leader - Babylon
Went to space on 223. Map ended up being a large islands map and I did a poor job of exploring, but I'm happy with it for my first completed gauntlet. Though I have a feeling it may be disqualified since I played through about 1/2 of it and had forgotten to make a save for submit. Saves ended up being initial, 1/2, 3/4, finish.. oh well was fun :)

most important i found in this one was hitting public schools before t110, and expos with mountains (observatories make a huge diff) - this gets you to r.labs around t130

mixing trad/lib also is best for getting early settlers out and poland is king when it comes to this imho

had a much smoother game with poland than with korea but map dependent too and took the salt pantheon - salt and marble can be as good as desert petra starts or even better!

shuffle map see you in civ 6, no sooner

congrats to the winner

I played a game with Spain - finally getting a good start with 2 NW.
I was a little behind my game with Korea, but I wasn't worried, as my cities were growing much faster.
Everything went perfect....until some stupid Maya decided to vote in ART FUNDING!

I went from finishing around the same date as my Korea game...to completely flunking it =/

I just had a map that could have been a sub 170 game, but I lost a few key parts and forgot to build gardens! We'll see if I can squeeze in one more attempt.

use your autosaves :)

Ah well, managed a t212 with Babylon and t203 with Korea, really thought I had that sub-200 game.

Turn 160 though, that's amazing, kudos on that!

If nothing else I have a fun little Korea game where I noticed I'd be nowhere close to a good time so I've turned it into a domination steamroll :D Declaring war on someone who's about to tech plastics with musket-men... not Bismark's brightest move!

Lol,do i imagine or everyvone play "hardcore" without using any save and not starting from starting again once finishing first game.I played same map multiple times and there is always something what can be improved, plus first time i just build tons of scouts to see is there any sense to play it and then reload from initial autosave.I could play without saves but when i lose wonder it just pissing me off too much lol.

So here is my score:
First try with korea, finished on turn 277.Second try with inca, finished on turn 203.
Playing with inca was interesting experience since with them you dont need to bother with focus balance-you can always leave it on food/science since you have terraces.Map had perfect start for capitol, full of hills plus few mountains to get extra food. So they are probably best civ for fast constructions.

I mostly played with Spain,i did like tons of re-rerolling to get right map.
First one good one was with great barrier as starting wonder, which allowed me to break a record in discovering education,on turn 59.Finished on turn 221,since problem was how entire area was covered with tundra.Later when i was peaking at machine game in previous science epic game, noticed he used patheon which gives fate on wonders so if i did that i would probably get much better score.Same that map also had +16 fate wonder which was close but taken by city state,i tried experiment by capturing that city state but that didn't generated better results, only worse.

Second map was where first wonder was mt.kalash and second old faithful, didn't tried to finish due limited space and warmongers around.

And the third one which i played mostly and was finished on turn 189,(before turn 200,193)was definitely most interesting map which i ever played, and i think i would accomplish best score if this would be epic and not quick speed. The reason for that, map have 5 wonders (lake victoria as first one, great barrier reef, baringer crater,mt.fuji and old faithful.)Since it was needed some time to get cities on those spots, and this is quick speed,it affect entire game.Think i could even improve current best score for around 5/6 turns since i needed to have a few more faith for third scientist bought by fate. And that was actually key problem-i was constantly harassed by GP/missionaries,and i couldn't dow them since they would kill my sea food caravans then.Tho i was able to capture first GP from maya since he didn't had any army yet then, and it was good since i used it to build faith landmark.
So what i did to prevent fate attacks,i made a "fate wall" composed of great musicians,so i finally got use of them as normally i would just disband them. What was strange in game, regardless which spreader i had(speed or wide),beside capitol none of my other cities had my religion normal way(had to use missionaries/GP to spread it).Dont think i ever experienced that before, and it was probably because of proximity of other holy cities. So i went with holy order instead spreaders. But,despise this fact, all Poland cities(which were kind a distant) took my religion while my own didn't lol.
Also, while i know how order is mathematically better,i always played with freedom due low hammers on capitol and other cities,i practically bought all parts in few turns.
If anyone wants i can upload map.
Things which i learned:
-for opponents its good to get civs which are non warmongers and friendly, since DOF is important to get loans/research agreements.
-it is better to send food caravans to 2,3,4,etc city then capitol since the goal is to fill specialist slots asap
-indonesia is bad opponent, not friendly and aggressive with faith and ignores your requests to not spread

it is against the HOF rules to play the same map multiple times...
