my bro has the civ3 cd somewhere- he's not sure. i've got the c3q cd. i wiped my pc's hard drive to get rid of an advertisement virus, but kept a copy of civ3 and c3q from the previous installation. i've been trying to find a way to satisfy or bypass the check for installed civ3 that occurs during c3q installation. i tried running the prior installation using the c3q cd- the program shuts down immediately after changing the monitor's resolution. i tried to install c3q in the copied civ3 program folder- c3q installer shut down when failing to find civ3 in the windows xp program registry. i tried to find the windows xp program registry to add civ3 manually- couldn't find it. i compiled my own civ3 installation- c3q installer wouldn't recognize it. i've tried opening the c3q preinstallation files in notepad, wordpad and word (using the format recognition screen that appears at opening of a nondocument file) in order to modify the installation to bypass the check for civ3- so far i haven't found what these files are formatted in and can't read them. anyone know how to get around this check for installed civ3?
also, anyone know what changes need to be made to gain independence from the game cd's? i'm sure all of you find it as annoying as i have to be inconvenienced with use of the cd's every time you want to play civ3 and c3q.
the only programming language i'm familiar with is cobol. i don't have compilers for other languages. i'm not against learning C or whatever civ is written in.
thanks
