Playing Civ 4
I just got Galactic Civilizations. It's a cool game, and is similar to Civ in some respects. Come to think of it, it reminds me of Civ 2 alot. Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone else has this game and what they think of it.

I bought it and like it. I haven't played in a while but will get back to it.

I have the demo, and LOVE it- but I'll wait for the upcoming x-pac for it to get so I can get them both together at the same time :)

Yes I got it and it's great. Its Civ 3 in space with a dash of roleplaying.

I played the demo, it was alright, and I've noticed it dropped in price really really fast here. I think it went to nearly half price.

but its the best stratgey game in that setting, from what I hear, and i see why, the random event thing is awesome IMO, as well as the semi political side of it, as your political party dose not always stay in power...

I must say, it's my fav next to civ3, but the tech support stinks! I emailed them twice over a week ago and they haven't replied!:rant: Ah, well. It's a good game, anyways!:D

GalCiv is pretty good - but its pretty limited too.
I never thought id say this but there isnt enough micromanagement - you can go turn after turn after turn doing absolutely NOTHING.
The top down interface is alrite kinda retro - its a fun game, the diplomacy engine is really simple to understand.
The whole game interface is simple and easy to learn - basically the manual for the game is a waste of paper because its not needed because only an idiot would not be able to figure out how to work this game.

But in saying that its symplistic nature damages the game as well as helps it - its a game thats supposed to be retro and simple but i think it could have done with a bit more complexity where it takes more than 30 seconds to do everything u need to do in a turn.

When you first play this game u think its absoultely great - but its simplicity makes it quickly repetitive and it gets boring really fast and you get tired of it.
In my view it was an overhyped game that wasnt worth the £35 i paid for it - its the first game that i bought and felt cheated because of the price of it.

However considering this is StarDocks first real attempt at releasing a commercial game it makes the game seem actually pretty good.

Overall id say its a good game and it bodes well for the future releases of Stardock Games because if this is their very first Internationally released Commercial game - they will only improve their skills from here on out and the next game will be a lot better if this is anything to go by.

Hopefully Stardock's expansion pack (the kind ya have to buy) will be better...It does need more complexity...

Well, no one has said they disliked it in the poll.:)

I am pretty much in agreement with lmsw08233 but seem to like it a bit more.

It's the game MOO3 should have been.

The great thing is the free constant upgrades to the game in terms of free expansions.

I really like GalCiv. Much less micromanagement than in Civ3.

BTW, we are currently playing a GalCiv Succession Game sponsered by Realms Beyond here in the Other Games forum; actually, it is kind of a competition of three team playing the same map, and it's great fun. Just now, we are urgently looking for one more player as one of the players of team "G" has dropped out. So if you are interested to join, please check the announcement thread over at GalCiv.com :

Or directly go to the thread of team "G":

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?threadid=76736&pagenumber=1

We are about to finish the first round, so don't wait to long :) . Just don't check the threads of the other teams as we want to avoid spoiler information.

Lurkers are welcome of course, so if you want to get an impression about GalCiv without purchasing it, this is your chance. :)
