I've played Civ3 for quite sometime and have never run into this. A friend and I decided to try out the Hotseat option in Civ3-Conquests (patch 1.22). Everything went well, until in the second age I tried to finish off one of the civs which only had 1 city left. Upon trying to exit the City screen, the game would crash without warning to the desktop. I went back in the autosaves about 3 years and tried it again, still no success. Even trying to raze the city caused an immediate crash. Very frustrated, I decided to just leave that 1 city alone so that we could continue our game.
Then my friend ran into the exact same problem when a screen popped up at the start of my friend's turn stating her civ had lost its resource of oil (which I had traded to my friend). The only option was to close the window and this caused the game to crash to the desktop (yet again). Once again, I tried going back to other saves and still the crash happens at the same spot. I tried figuring out how to keep my friend from 'losing their resource of oil', so the message wouldn't pop up, but again failed. Unfortunately, since this message pops up and there is no way to bypass it...it means we can never finish the game we have spent so many hours on. Very saddening.
If anyone knows what might cause this and a way to fix it, or someway to fix a possibly corrupt save-game, I'd really like to know. I've attached the save game just in case anyone wants to take a look.
