Game Crashes: NVIDIA 6600 GT

ok, with the 81.87 Beta Drivers, the first session went ok (movie sound a little skippy but doable). Second session: CTD about 40min into it.

One thing I did notice, everything looks ok graphically until I zoom out with the mouse wheel. The world goes funky. Then all is normal when I zoom back in. I dunno. Maybe this will help someone figure out a solution quicker.

I now have the absolutley have the newest of everything, nothing seem to matter at all, the game crashes as much as it did before. I even added some more memory to see if that would do anything, I now have 2GB of RAM.

I only have to start the game, it does not matter if I even move the mouse and play any turns, it will hang in between 5-20min or so.
Just leve the game running and don't play and it will still hang, believe me it will...

For what it's worth, I have no problems in Civ4 with my 6600 GT and the 81.85 drivers. The game looks great and I haven't had a single crash (just bad audio stuttering in the Wonder movies).

This is probably because the world view is a different 'engine'. The game seems to load a new engine every time you switch view, and apparently its much harder to show the world view then normal view. Im in the industrial age right now on a small map and i cant view the world anymore cuz itll hang (and make me ctd).

i don't know if anyone notices this I noticed that the crashes happened when the game was auto saving, so I tryed doing a manual save before the auto save and ever so often the same thing would happen even with manual save.

I didn't have crashing issues with my 6600GT, but i certainly had horrible chopiness and framerate. New drivers and a fresh reboot solved my problems though. I think it is a game issue (see all the memory leak threads, that's a sure way to crash you), and hopefully patched soon. Sorry you're having troubles, but I think you're card is ok. It is working just fine for me now.

THose types of errorr.. Got em all, but not with Civ. why?
1. Cleaned my case from dust, got miself a new ventilation for CPU and southbridge (yea, southbridge WAS OVERHEATING!! procesor ok, but southbridge... lol)
2. Took my graphic card on a test in some servis, and after 2 days test they find out it has some problems with memory, what cosed artefacts to apear, more and more over time.

[(3). it can be a weak power supply if too many hardware are connected]

If your system is clean from viruses and other magets, you have latest driver, and problem with hard-core-hardware-eating programs (like 3D games), then your problem is in your hardware..

Well guys what can i say...
Having the same problems as u all, updated EVERYTHING possible.
The game started off nice, but when i got to year 1700 dark clouds started to form....................
Dont know how many times i have rebooted the machine
Now when i turn down the graphics i notice the game sometimes will work fine, when that happens i never turn the damn thing off.. :)
Also turn off internet, firewall, virus prg,and other things working in the background

amd3200 64
512+256 mb ram
geforce 6600gt

yep another one with the crashes here...

i've stopped playing cause the crashes seem to have corrupted the game files... :(

i've got a 6800nu...

and i've tried 71.89 thru to 81.89.. the 89s are definatly the best in terms of least amount of crashes...

only this and another game, FEAR crash... it's odd Doom3 and Quake4, BF2 don't...

so i reckon it's got somehting to do with the new DX9...

I have stopped playing aswell after one of the reboots made my system not load the bios file properly and windows was all messed up. Took me a while to notice the system was back on january the 1st 2002 :D and hence most stuff refused to work for a reason.

the 81.94 drivers solved all my problems! the game runs smooth without slowing down later in the game :D

Not mine : crash to desktop many times, later in the game ! :(

XP SP2, P4 3GHz, 1024 Ram, 6600 GT 128.

I've only got a standard GeForce 6600 myself

and when I installed CIV4 onto my computer I crashed every 10 minutes (and to be honest i was getting tired of all the crashes)

but now i've got no problems what so ever thanks to a reinstall and the patch

If ur crashing in game check ur system temperature on the reboot in the bios. I had it shutdown randomly on me once and my system was at like 50 C, i turned up the fan havn't had it happen since.

Update windows, directx, and ur chipset/Motherboard drivers.

Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro 2 Motherboard - Athlon XP 2500 Processor
1 Megabyte RAM
XFX (Nvidia chipset) 6600GT with latest 81.95 Offical Nvidia drivers
Gigabyte ITE 8212F RAID Drive (160G maxtors x 2 - RAID 1)

I also get random crashes with the new patch that never happened before - usually I have to reload Windowx XP (SP2) to get Civ 4 to reload

50 C shouldn't be a problem. I ran the game in windowed mode, so I could continously monitor the temperature of my 6800 GT. It was nowhere near critical levels, when the game crashed on me.

Right now, in Windows, my card is reading 53 C.
