Game Crashes ONLY IF Settings Customized

Every game my roommate tries to start -- whether vanilla or mod -- crashes IF any of the default settings are changed; whether or not customized settings screen is entered to start a new game.

The game crashes just as it is about to transition from 'loading' to 'begin your journey.'

Game crashes to desktop.

Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions?



System:

Intel Core 2 Quad
Q6700 2.66GHz, 3.25 GB RAM
NVIDIA GTX 285

That's odd... Did you update the drivers of the vga card and any other drivers? Have you tried anything in order to solve the problem?

updated all drivers, reloaded game, cleaned registry..... not sure what else to do!

Tried. But, apparently there's something else going on because I cannot open the NVIDIA Control Panel -- I get an error message.

So, in order to disable SLI to know whether or not that's the problem, I'm gonna have to figure out what is preventing the NVIDIA Control Panel from opening....sigh.
