Game crashing as soon as it starts

Hi there,

I've just bought Civ 4 (European version on 1 disk).

Unfortunately it crashes as soon as it starts - I go through the various choose ruler, choose word attributes screens. I've tried the Gamespy machine assessor and it passes the machine fit. My machine is running Windows 2000 Professional.

I've included my dxdiag results output file.

Any help, very gratefully received.

Hi there,

Thanks for replying. No error message as such - the game just grinds to a halt while Leonard Nimoy is talking. I've tried a few times but always the same thing - either the machine crashes or I have to terminate the game.
