Game crashing fairly frequently in TBC 7.4

This is my first post in an age.
First of all I'd like to say how much I like this mod. I recently started playing civ5 again with the CCMAT mod vII and while I enjoyed it thoroughly I am finding TBC to be a better experience in all aspects apart from one, which is that the game crashes quite often (every hour or so).

The CTDs mainly happen at the end of a turn but have happened at different points, such as moving units. I've been able to reload a game and get past the crash point only for it to CTD half an hour later.
Its pretty hard to pinpoint whats causing it but tbh I haven't done half the logical things I should do like reinstalling the game etc.

I tried deleting my cache and then validating game cache through steam. I get an error message "unable to validate all files, 1 file to be reaquired" or something like that. Steam then informs me that "all downloads are complete" presumably meaning that it has downloaded a replacement for the corrupt file, but when I try to validate it again the same thing happens all over again.

Does this sound like a familiar/fixable problem?

I might just wait for future patches/releases rather than spend hours trying to get this to work, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.s I'm using the city-state diplomact mod as well as info-addict so perhaps they are causing problems?

I hadn't had a crash in weeks, if not months, but crashed every several turns with 7.4 as well. It was almost always during the AI turn, when the game would freeze up. Clearly there's something going on.

Update: If you encounter this crash bug, please try playing without Flag Promotions and report back if that solves the issue. This will help narrow down where the problem is. Thanks!

To play without Flag Promotions, add an "_" underscore in front of the folder name and it's disabled:

D:\Thalassicus\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS\Unofficial Patch and Thals Balance (v 76)\CiVUP - Civ V Unofficial Patch\_Flag Promotions

I've definitely noticed an increase in crash frequency as well, but still only once every couple hours, so no big deal. Last night it actually helped me out, as I was up way too late anyways so it was a good reminder to turn off the damn game.

It works very well in that regard. Oddly I've noticed the same thing - less crashes in 7.5 than 7.4.

Did anyone who played v7.3 encounter any crashes? I finally had time to sit down a play a game, and encountered the same thing.

This is a difficult bug to track down because the game's not giving me any helpful information. Until now I haven't seen a crash from modding, just other problems, so I don't have a frame of reference to track down the issue. I've seen some odd notification messages in the tuner though that might be related, and I'm taking a look there.

No. I crashed frequently in my first game with 7.4. On 7.5, it was only occasional. I'm back on 7.4 now because of the other 7.5 bugs, and am not having any frequent problems. It definitely seems as if the bug is elusive.

Naturally my 7.4 game is now crashing more often.

I always hesitate to give you troubleshooting advice, since I have no clue how anything works once you lift the hood. That said, is there a way to examine the changes made to 7.4 individually as a way of isolating the bug?

@Txurce
There's hundreds of files, and many changes from one version to the next, so without a starting point it's difficult to isolate this problem. What would be most helpful is figuring out which version it started in... 7.3 or 7.4. I'm playing a game with 7.3 right now but haven't encountered the problem... yet.

Unfortunately I can't remember for sure but I believe I skipped 7.3. Not only that I played 2 partial and one full game with 7.4 and no crashes. Then Last night I played another game with 7.4 and it was crashing every 30-45 minutes, so it's definitely really random.

For me the problem started with 7.4, and that seems to be the case in general, based on the various posts.

I've uploaded v7.3 back to the two places (blog and mod browser) so hopefully that will work for everyone until I can figure out how to solve this problem.

The main problem isn't the bugs at all. I sorta got burned out from the flurry of updates in early June after classes let out. It was just bad timing to run into all these bizzare issues, plus the announcement of a major patch. :rotfl:

Understandable. Probably not the best place for it, but I'll take this opportunity to say: Thank you for sticking around when so many other prominent members of the civ5 modding community have slowly disappeared over the last months. It cannot be easy without the C++ access and the limitations Civ5 modding has had. If TBC wasn't still active, I doubt I'd still be playing the game - and I imagine that's true for many that frequent this corner of the forums. Oh, and thanks for making great decisions that the devs can draw on to make the vanilla game better too! :hatsoff::thanx::cheers:

I *just* had it crash on me with 7.3 (which I had previously skipped over). Looks like 7.2 is clean and 7.3 has the crash.

I didn't play a lot of games on 7.3, but there were no crashes reported. I'm playing with it now. But five minutes after you posted, my roommate just downloaded it, and it promptly crashed.
