Game crashing fairly frequently in TBC 7.4

I had one crash in several games of 8.x but it was different than the 7.x crashes, and since it was after an extended play session I believe that it just ran out of memory/memory got too fragmented in the game.

Out of curiosity, were you saving at that point? Would a save to Steam or QuickSave have helped?

That sounds like the same problem that happened when "reload landmark system" was enabled. Could you check this file:

Unofficial Patch and Thals Balance (v 86).modinfo

and see if this is 0 or 1:

ReloadLandmarkSystem

Also make sure no older versions of the mod are installed in the "mods" folder, and cache/moduserdata have been deleted since v7.X.

Has anyone else encountered crashes lately?

Checked and it was 0.

I should clarify here: Out of several games with TBC 8.x I've played I've had exactly oen crash - not one each in several games. I believe it was during the AI turn (don't know if it was autosaving or the actual AI turn). I had every-turn autosaves on, and after restarting the game I was able to load the autosave and finish the game with no further crashes.

It turns out the bug wasn't in the mod at all.

When I changed the art for strategic resources to show the "small" art for size 1-2 deposits and "large" for size 3+ I figured... hey, I changed the art for resources... so I should check the box that says "use this" when art for resources is changed... right?

I enabled that in the version when the crashes started, disabled it and the crashes stopped. Voila!

Thal,

You NEED to post this in the main C&C forum, instead of leaving it here buried three levels deep. I've been trying to track down this crash bug in my own mod for months now, and this seems to have fixed it. Obviously it's something the devs will need to fix on their end, but in the meantime all modders should know not to use that flag.

I posted it in the bug report forum, dshirk said they're looking into it, and it was moved to the confirmed bugs section. I'm guessing the problem will be solved with the modbuddy update SSeckman mentioned should be out in a week or two.

So I have experienced a crash with 8.6.3.

Turn 221, I have noticed that it is during the AI turn and notifications have told me that someone was just entering the Renniasance era while the crash was happening.

At first I figured it was just a video problem with my computer. But when I went back and grabbed the turn 220 auto save On turn 221 it crashed again. Any ideas?

Started game with Info Addict, CSD, TBC and Civ Willard enabled. Started with a Cleared Cache, cleared ModUserData folder, no older versions of TBC in folder. Can post game save if you think it will help.

Could you post these things in a zip:

  • Savegame where the crash occurs
  • Mods folder
  • ModUserData folder
Repeatable crashes are usually easier to identify than ones which don't repeat when reloaded.

Sorry it took me so long.

Here are the files you requested.

Basically open the game, hit Next Turn and it sould crash.

Thanks. Hopefully I can get the AI to stop mass-declaring me (and never giving peace) 10 turns after I took their city-state friend. :(

Taking a city-state is considered wiping out a civilization and as such confers a fairly significant diplomatic penalty.

Sorry for going off track but...

Hmm, I'm not even sure if the mod is activating... any way to know if it is active in a savegame? I played the game from about 10 turns before I attacked the city-state, and I didn't even touch it this time. I still got dog-piled on the same exact turn: 129 or something....

Check the tech tree or better yet the Social Policies, and look for differences with vanilla. For example, I believe vanilla doesn't allow you to build a Ship of the Line with Navigation.

I toggled the "enabled" flag on and off but ships of the line can still be built with navigation either way...

Is it "normal" for the AI to "randomly" dog-pile the human? I thought the included What Would Gandhi Do mod fixed that problem... can't play Civ 5 like this.... fending off 10 other civs at the same time. :\

My only transgression really is that I took like two civs for 1000 gold and then declared on them for a bit. Is that why the AI to hates me so much?
