Game does not work in windowed mode!

1. Load the game, go to Advanced -> Options -> Graphics, click Full Screen setting off. Gives the message "Program must be restarted before changes will take effect"

2. Exit game and restart.

3. When restarting, the game will always start in full screen and the Full Screen setting is on again in the options.


Civ4 and Warlords worked perfectly while windowed (1280x720).

Using:
Amd 4400+ X2
2gb DDR400 (2x1gb)
Nvidia 7800 GTX (v94.24)
Sharp LC-37AD1E (display 1360x768)
Win XP Pro SP2

I'm used to always playing in windowed mode while working so this is almost a critical bug for me.

Update:
Started working once after editing and saving the ini file for the 20th time. All other settings are kept when exiting, but Full screen seems to almost always reset itself.

I bet this has something to do with Civ Vanilla and Civ BtS and them getting their configs jumbled up.

Try finding your civ config file in your directory and manually editing it.

I play in Windowed mode because I can't use Ventrilo while in Civ, and I edited the config file and it worked. The config tells you which value to edit.

I always play in windowed mode also, but sometimes (1 out of 5 times) when I start vanilla/warlords/bts the game forgets and starts in fullscreen mode.

I've always manually edited the ini and I've never had a issue will it forgetting windowed mode, guess there is a bug in the GUI.

I tried doing it just now and it worked fine. I didn't touch the config file.

I'm having this problem now too. Nothing new happend, just booted up Civ and now it keeps resetting my settings to Full Screen.
Definetly yet another bug in the long list of bugs in BtS.

One possibility raised by snoopy369 is that following a game crash, the .ini file stays "locked". When you try to start BTS again, it sees the file as in-use, so creates another one, with the default options.

I can't recreate this bug, but there are a few people mentioning settings "not sticking".

Late but I think I found the problem.
Worked for me, atleast.

Just change the menu you use for Civ4.
I went from Classical BtS to just BtS, now it lets me start windowed.

How exactly do I change the way the menu displays?
Beside that ... after installing BtS half of my options menu isnt displaying.
Audio and Other has no entries at all, graphics shows me the drop downs, but not the check options.
Aka, no fullscreen or anything ...
