Does anyone know if they have used the same engine on some Civ games, or does Firaxis always create new ones for a new title?

I wonder how far the current Civ VI engine could be streched to it's limits.
I noticed that when units travel over stuff like Gobustan, they actually get elevated on top of that natural wonder, so maybe this engine could be modified to make some altitude changes, if wanted.

I also noticed that Firaxis is hiring lots of people with experience in Unreal engine, maybe that has something to do with Xcom.

If I recall correctly, at least Civ V used a new engine different from IV (considering the hex and 1UPT changes, obviously), and VI used a new engine different from V.

Edit: It seems Civ IV used Gamebryo as its engine, and V used a graphics engine built from the ground up named "Firaxis LORE".
