hi,

i thought id start a game startin in the modern era but have encountered a problem. no matter what size i set the game at, it always seems to be on dual setting.

as in, at the start of the game when i scroll all the way out, the map looks tiny.

what gives?

You don't see the whole map when you zoom all the way out.

Sure you're changing the map size?

normally by mid/late game i can scroll the map all round the globe but when start in the modern era im unable to do this.

yes, ive defo changed the map size. go try it now to see what i mean.

Ive tried a modern era start map and it worked fine, nice big map, what map size did you use out of curiosity?
Edit: I just started a huge map in the modern era, its definitely huge (or not duel), as sonereal suggested, perhaps you need to explore some first ;) offtopic why are some barbs ancient/classical (archers) and some are modern (infantry)?

so how come when i start in the modern era i cant scroll the map whereas in the future era the map is WAY bigger?

is it somethin to do with the satellite tech?

i remember in civ4 when you discovered the calandar it centred the map so you could see its true size.

You can only scroll the map to areas you have actually explored. In a future era start you have the Satellites tech which reveals the entire world map, but in any earlier start you have to send your units out to look around. Civ5 doesn't have a map-centering bonus like Civ4's calender; at least not in the standard game.
