Game failing to launch?

I just got around to purchasing the newest Civ VI expansion (Gathering Storm), and it seems to be having trouble loading.

I select the game from my steam Library and it brings up the 2k launcher beta, where it asks me to select DirectX 11 or Direct X 12, and then hit the green play button. When I hit the play button, the beta launcher goes away, but then nothing happens, and the game doesn't start up.

Anyone else having this problem? The expansion was almost as expensive as the original game, so I would love to be able to play it.

What happens for me is that when I press "play", up pops a Windows error message saying the program has stopped working. So I close it, and then the game starts. Annoying, broken, but not a killer.

Have you tried if it's because of the launcher or something else? You can skip the launcher like this: https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/how-to-bypass-the-stupid-launcher.639325/
Try both DX11&12 options.

If it's not the launcher, I had a similar problem in the early days of the game, and uninstalling and installing all the MS Visual C++ redistributables did the trick.

Sometimes it takes quite a while to start up after I hit play on the launcher. Other times it goes right away. No clue why.

Eh, still didn't work for me. Same thing happens as with the launcher.. black screen for about 3 seconds and then the white box appears titled "Firaxis Crash Reporter" and says a crash has been detected. Clean install Windows 10, all drivers updated, verified, DirectX and C++ reinstalled (have to use 2017 version due to ESO). Be nice if the game ran, I didn't have this issue on Windows 7 and the PC was 8 years old.
