Im playing on an 18 civ large map in the modern era and my game keeps freezing. I'd move a unit and then it would freeze, I would end up using Ctrl Alt Del to shut down the game. After I load the game back up I cant load the save becuase the game stops responding.

Maybe. Would an un-upadted graphics driver create red spots on the map? I keep getting these big red blotches over certain tiles on the game map.

I altered the civunitsinfos.xml file. I used it with one of those programs that make it easier to edit xml files. Other than that I didnt edit anything.

Nah that did not do anything. I had the modded game files before the red orbs came up anyways.
I didn't mod any of the files at all that would cuase this.

Sorry for taking so long. Christmas vacation. I cant open civilizationIV.ini.bik. I only get that error where it asks you what to open the file with. Theres no 'open with' option either.

I think Ive found what youre talking about. CivilizationIV and theres [config] right at the top of the notepad page. However theres no .ini in the file name. Anyways Ill do that and see what happens.

It's impossible to help you really. You edited your core BtS files, something you should never do, so it's impossible to focus in on your problem. You need to reinstall BtS. Next time you want to modify your game use Custom Assets, and you'll be able to revert to the original BtS setup easily. Never alter your core BtS game files, there is no reason to, and it only causes problems like what you are experiencing.

These problems started very long after I modded my game. Like, half a year after.

Ill try anyways. I uninstalled Civ 4 BTS successfully, but when I was trying to uninstall civ 4 vanilla I keep getting this error:

"An error has occured while running the setup. Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed other applications."

All I had running was internet explorer.

Can't help you with that, I have no idea how Civ's installer/uninstaller works. I'm fairly confident though that your issue is caused by the modifications you made, so you need to revert to the original setup, and reinstalling is necessary for that. I don't know why you'd need to reinstall vanilla civ4 though, I'd assume any modifications you'd be making are in BtS.

By the way, when you go about reapplying your changes, simply copy the files into your custom assets folder and edit the copies there. Civ4 loads custom assets over the base files by default (unless playing multiplayer) so your changes are automatic, but that way the original files aren't changed, so you can easily revert things when you screw up. And you always screw up with modding, it comes with the territory.
