I have read alot of threads about game freezing, some of them have questions and answers i do not understand, so I thought instead of assuming I have same problems as other people, I'd post a question.
I have civilization iv, I have installed the patch that is listed on this forum..one of the stickies. I have the latest OS for mac, an intel core 2 duo processor, and 200 GB of spave available on my mac.
The first and minor problem I have is that sometimes when scrolling the screen goes black except for my people. I'm not talking about the unexplored areas, but the whole board.
The major problem I have is that the game has now frozen twice. Oncce during the tutorial and once during a game. I was not playing but for a few minutes either time. The first time, I did not pay attention to what applications were running, but the second time everything was closed except for isquint. BF was playing, so I just told him not to exit isquint, so it could have been finished but i am not sure. The complete converted file is not on my computer, but we did have to force a shut down.
Any suggestions on what could have caused this..like isquint running or is this a glitch and i need to download another patch?
For those of you who do not know what isquint is, it is an application that will convert an avi file (plus others) to an mp4.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if an answer has been posted, such as running other programs causes known problems, but all the talk about video cards and such in the threads i have read didn't seem to apply to me. This is a brand new computer, so in theory there should not be anything wrong with the computer. I realize this isn't always true. However, maybe I'm missing a program that i need?!?
BTW, I was still able to move the mouse, just not click on anything. I tried clicking on the little map to navigate and that did not work either. Music was not playing by the time BF alerted e to the problem, but he is not sure when it stopped, his best estimate is about same time as the game froze.

- but back to the topic. In my case (WinXP) it was trouble with my sound-card. Maybe you try to turn off audio in your civilisation.ini and see if it happens again - if not, try to change your config in the civ/options/audio where you can select mono/stereo/etc I could select windows settings and didn't have any crashes since then (previous crashes came between turn 2 and 100)...
