Those whose Civ 4 game is stable (plays nicely with your hardware), have you experienced any crashes at all? What was happening when the crash occurred? I have played for at least 16 hours since release day and not had a single problem or strange artifact on the screen. I'm in 1700 AD on my first full game. :goodjob:

There are definitely bugs, but no crashes here, at least in the durations that I have run the game (2-4 hours at a time).

My specs:
Athlon 64 3700+
1 GB RAM
Nvidia 7800 GTX latest drivers

Hopefully the forthcoming patch will let more people play this game with so little trouble :)

One crash so far--and it was kind of my fault. When trying to hit Alt-C, my finger hit the Start Menu button on my keyboard, which brought the game to desktop. When I tried to get back into the game, the screen resolution was off and the game ran for a few minutes very clunky. Then it froze up and crashed. But when I restarted it went right to the autosave with no problems. I agree that Civ III was much less stable.

P4 2.8GHz, 1GB RAM, Radeon 9700 128mb

Oh, I've done that too, and I've probably used alt-tab hundreds of times already (and also the windows key). It *always* recovers. At this point I'm practically trying to make it crash :D

Can you reproduce it? Does it crash most of the time you press Windows key? Assuming you are as masochistic as I and actually want to test this

Just before getting the game I upgraded from 256 to 768 Megs, but when the game came out I played through a game on Normal with one crash. It seemed to stutter just before every video and when moving the view around to different areas on the map that I didn't control.
I upgraded my video card which helped the movies, but I kept creeping to a crawl when I got to the modern era. Plus it would crash to the desktop with virtual memory problems every so often. Once it did it, I rebooted, loaded my save game and it did it again on the very first turn when scrolling around the map.
Today I upgraded to a Gig of ram. No more problems scrolling, however it still crashes to the desktop once in a while with no explanation.

Note: That wasn't a complaint. I know my system is old and crap.

nope.. my specifications are even better and have had no problems.. my only problem is wasting my time playing when I could be doing other stuff :mischief:

Yep, just reproduced it the first time I tried from a game that I just started up. I'm going to see if there's a way to disable the Start Menu/Windows key as a workaround, since I never use the thing anyway.

Never had any crash problem, not a single one. I alt tabbed many times but the game always recovered. It is a very stable product, compared to Civ III. Great game.

Glad that there are more people who don't have technical issues with the games. I've been feeling rather lonely in some threads. :)

zeeter, if you're getting virtual memory problems, you might want to check the solutions in this sticky: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=135366

Basically it sounds like your pagefile is too small (special memory file on your hard disk that gets filled once your main RAM has run out) .

Thanks, opkoad. I did look in my virtual memory settings after receiving the error, but I wasn't sure what to set it to. That thread gave me some ideas. I'll probably set it to a Gig, and then I'll have 2 gigs and (hopefully!) no crashes!

wow, only a 800 Mhz processor, does it run slow anywhere? I have a P3 733, lots of ram, I wonder if it would run well? Anyone out there with a slower processor?

I had one end game crash the other day. I loaded the auto save and was only one turn back. Then I finished the game with no problems.

Approx 7 hours of gameplay (1st Spaceship WIn at Noble !!!! ) + 4 hours (roomates) no crash it all !!!

Athlon XP 1800
512 DDR
ATI Radeon 9200SE 128MB

What a great game
!!!!!

Didn't have any crashes. Only thing is when I zoom out to globe I get some stripes or something.

I played 1280x1024 with 4x AA first and everything high, but I had to go back to 2x AA because of slow scrolling.

P4 2.8
1GB Ram
Geforce 6600GT

I'd be glad when all those whiners who don't understand their computer put the game away. (disclaimer: not talking about some serious problems, although those can mostly be fixed)
