Sorry to cause confusion guys (and gal). I never relised that loading the first turn of a PBEM defaults to cheiftan. Now I know how to get around it so this time its Emperor
Ishy has sent me a second start, this time I loaded it via multiplayer as Emperor. Played my turn and have sent it onto prettyvacant.
