Game runs too fast.

Hey all.

I heard so much about this game over the years that when I had the chance to pick it up for next to nothing I snatched it up.

I installed and patched it and it fires up fine.. no errors, nothing, BUT... it just runs to fast.

I've never been very good at RTS anyway and because all the units move in a blink it's not helping that I can't keep track of enemy units.. I have to visually hunt for each one all the time and tbh it's not making me any better at playing it, it's more an exercise in frustration than anything else. I've looked in the options and the only thing I can find is something to speed it up.. and that's definately the last thing I need.

I'm here to ask if any of you know a way to slow the game down on new hardware.. I know this might seem a strange request after all most of you will have played for years and will probably find the turn waiting interminable.. however, for the time being I find myself in the opposite position.

So anyone have any thought on how to get the movement animations to run at a normal, slower rate?

Thx.

Welcome to CFC. :)

I want to ask a question that might seem strange, but here goes: What game are you playing? I realize that you posted your question in the Alpha Centauri forum, but you said you were playing a RTS (Real-Time Strategy) game. Alpha Centauri and the Alien Crossfire add-on are TBS (Turn-Based Strategy) games. So, that was probably just a minor slip on your part, but I had to ask.

Assuming that this is the right forum, go back to MENU --> GAME --> PREFERENCES. You said you found an option to speed the game up, but there are actually several such options within that area. For example, one option is Move all units quickly. Make sure that (and similar options) isn't checked. You might also want to select the Pause at end of turn option.

I've played this game on several generations of increasingly fast hardware and never saw a speed increase that you described. Please post again if my suggestions don't help. What kind of processor is in your system, and what is your OS?
