Game Seems to Play Fine, No Errors, just Garbled Text

*sigh* After seeing a fix for the black map, I was stoked.
Re-installed the game hoping my investment would finally get use...

NOW when I load the game, every bit of text is garbled.
I looked back and couldn't find any problem like it...

Can anyone please help me with this? I can see all the figureheads fine, and everything else if I guess my way through the menu... it's just the text.

Well. There have been reports of this rare error before. Alas, there have been no solutions, or at least I cannot recall any

Well, what I would do: uninstall game, manually delete all leftover civ directories (under program files and under my games), reinstall, repatch and see.

This problem has been attributed to fonts, and also regional settings, different civ4 regional editions (you have not downloaded a russian version from somewhere, right?? ). Good luck.

Wish that was the problem, then I wouldn't be out $50 until I get this working. *laughs* I'll reinstall tomorrow and try that solution on the link they posted though... Post more then.

Well, the text fix worked, so thanks for that... BUT, the black map is still in effect, and the information near cities (THe name, icons, etc, are still garbled) so it seems I'll have to wait till late july to get my new computer for my b-day and HOPE it's got a tnl-enabled or whatever graphics card.

It just sucks, cause the game plays well, figureheads display perfect... so do trees, everything but the floor and the city info. By all means I could play the game, just not understand a whole lot...

So you've got issues with the black terrain, right. Well. I assume you have patched the game to version 1.61. I assume that your graphics drivers are updated. Now what you should try is to enter world builder in game and select "reveal entire map". Any better now?

Yes, I'm patched up and have the latest drivers, and did the reveal map trick (since I remembered it from when Civ4 was first released), and still nothing.

I meet every requirement, save one, and I pretty much am assured that its the TnL thing thats kicking me, because the game runs fine aside from the points I brought up above... Not too sure about the City text thing though.

So yeah, I've resigned to just waiting until I get my new computer on my birthday next month. Hopefully it works then!
