Difficulty: Immortal with the potential for tech trading AND two Civs to be on we want high tech costs so that research times aren't crazy.
The game speed is important. I hope we'll go on Epic, it's the only reasonable way to play, at least for my style.
 
On Epic, build times scale up just as much as research times though, so it doesn't help at all if you're researching faster than you can build stuff.

Besides, these games typically already take 1-2 years to complete. Going with Epic speed automatically adds an extra 50% to that, which translates to 6-12 months. Personally, I would rather not have the game take almost an extra year if at all possible. ;)
 
I think speed=normal will be a given, don't remember if there is even a discussion going on it.

Huts: on(8) off(5)
Events: off (unanimous)
Vassals: off (unanimous)
Tech Trading: Normal(9), Off(3), No Broker(1)
Barbs: normal(10), off(2), raging(1)
Diff: emp(6.75), mon(2.75), imm(2), prince(0.75), noble(0.75)
 
My votes are for:

Huts: off (I, too, worry about bad luck/balance issues)
Events: off (see above)
Vassals: off
Tech trading: normal
Barbs: normal
Difficulty: I'm neutral, but will vote Emperor

- Difficulty Level: How does this matter? health/ happiness? Everybody is equal anyway, right?
 
We will all be equally handicapped yes.
 
Difficulty level affects four main things (see my post here):

- Barbarian activity
- Gold per turn drain (due to civics/maintenance/units/inflation)
- Hostility of huts
- Most significantly, research times

So the main effect of increasing the difficulty is to make it longer to research techs - thus meaning units don't go obsolete quite so quickly, and can be used for longer on the battlefield.

So it looks like the only thing which is in close contention is the vote on huts. Everything else we seem to be pretty much in agreement on.

"Huts on" gives you another beginning with scouts so I vote for this
"events on" is good, because the negatives events are striked
"vassals off" see above
"barbs on" without is no play
"tech-trading" yes; diplomacy is the core of DG, also I know I'm not good in it.
"difficulty emperor" the cities should can be growing and the outcome of huts are preferable.
 
The team vote has almost been finalized, and we've got most of what we wanted, apart from huts:

Huts - Off
Events - Off
Vassals - Off
Barbs - Normal
Tech Trading - Normal
Game Speed - Normal

Only difficulty remains to be set; Emperor is winning at the moment. Add to that that duplicate leaders have been voted in, and we only have to make 1 leader pick which we automatically get. :)
 
Yep, indeed... Monarch won both by popular vote and by averaging. So that's what we'll be going with. :)

Well, at least we won't have barb archers showing up on turn 10 (...recalling the first time I tried a Deity game on a lark... :wow:) :)
