every time I load a new game it gives me settings that changes my difficulty when I just want it to stay at chieftain threw the whole game, where do I go in the game to change the settings so that the difficulty doesn't change?

I like it, too, but should it really be turned on by default? Especially when looking at newcomers to C2C...

I thought about this a whole lot, and i believe so, because, if a newbie isn't that good, then it should take into account this, and like it says, be Flexible in the difficulty level or how you adjust your playing, or am i missing something here?

Maybe it's called flexible difficult, not sure. But it DOES decrease your difficulty as well for sure. In my last game it changed from deity to immortal every two turns (no idea why it switched back to immortal at all).

I think you should switch it off by default because it is a more advanced option. If someone is struggeling, would it be possible to get a pop-up like: "It seems the dificulty level you choosed is too hard for you. If you want to decrease it, do..."

It should NOT be switching like that fast, it is set be default for every 50 turns, you must have changed it or something??

I've said this before, and I'll just throw it out there again. Setting it to "on" will confuse new players. If someone wants it on, they are more likely to know how to turn it on than someone who doesn't want to use it will know how to turn it off.

It doesn't help either that the option to turn it on/off in the custom start options is over-ruled by the BUG options.

yeah, I did change that to 1 or 2 rounds so I can start on immortal, and than switch to deity so the AI don't get the additional settler in the beginning.
BUT it should switch back to immortal when:

-I set current difficulty, min AND max Difficulty to deity
-I am way ahead of the AI, culturally, techlead, military, nation size etc

As dusckr said: the game option should not be overruled with the BUG otion (same as choose religions) and it should be OFF by default for said reasons.

sidenote: I always play with it being "blank." Doesnt change then hardly at all. Just as if it was off as in now default)

OK, i will listen to the other C2C modders here: Options pls before release. . . SO

There're actually both settings, Flexible Difficulty and Increasing Difficulty.
While the former can only be set during game play in the BUG options and works as described here, the latter can only be set at game start and will - as the name suggests - only increase your difficulty every x turns. At least that's what the tooltip says.
So right now there would be no overruling possible for that setting anyway, though I have no idea how Increasing and Flexible Difficulty would interact if both are enabled.

Though of course it could also be that both settings actually refer to the same mechanic, in which case a) the name of the setting and its tooltip are just plain wrong and need to be fixed, and b) the override issues mentioned in this thread truely are a concern and need to be taken care of.

Anyway, I'd also vote for disabling it by default. I was quite confused the first time I noticed my difficulty increased.

Agreed.
