Game Slowed to a Crawl

I have Civ 4, Beyond the Sword. I have been playing it since it was released with no problems. Recently, playing as a single, the game just slowed down to a crawl. It is painful to play this slow. I freed up alot of disc space thinking it might help and ran a virus cleaner, all to no avail. Any suggestions?

Have now run more virus checks to no avail. I even bought RegCure and ran it. Game still runs too slow to play. Help


Fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling game.

Try scanning for malware.

Thanks, I tried Avast at the boot level and now housecall from trendmicro. Neither fixed my problem. It has been years since I used trendmicro, thanks for reminding me of them. Any other suggestions? I am afraid that the game runs so hot on my laptop that something burned up. However, everything else works fine.
