Game speed for LAN game

Hello,

My friends and I had a LAN battle a few months ago. We played on quick speed, large islands, standard size map. However, we only had 4 human civs, no AI and reduced city states. Obviously, this game was very stretched out. (ended in cultural victory)

This time around, we are aiming to use a pangea map on either tiny or small. We will have 5-6 humans and no AI. IF we have 5 humans, our map size will be tiny with 6-7 CS. If 6 humans, small map and 12 CS.

I want us to use the standard speed. The videos of the more competitive FFA matches always use quick speed. Our game doesnt need to be as short as the really competitive multiplayer matches. Since we are dedicating as much as 13 hours to a game, I thought we could use standard speed. (I dont expect the game to last 13 hours. I intend to conquer in less than 6) I think this will give players with a tech advantage a longer period to make use of their more advanced units and maybe even put a premium on ensuring units survive.

What are your thoughts on using standard speed for a FFA tiny/small pangea map?

Do you know of any videos of a FFA on standard speed?

Some concerns I have with gameplay on standard speed listed below:

- capturing cities prior to construction will be darn near impossible. Lots of turns until units capable of forming a formidable force become available. May take 1.5-2 hours until machinery level units are available.

- Game speed, along with map type and size, greatly conquest over other victory types. Am I cheating some of my non warmongering friends out of other possible victory conditions?

- How many civs lose viability? I believe there are enough civs for 6 players to choose unique civs and be competitively equal with disabled bias start. Will there be 1-3 civs that are completly over powered? Already powerful multiplayer civs will become even more powerful, and late classical to medival UUs have a clear advantage at this speed.

- Will 5 human players on a tiny pangea map give 1-2 players a huge advantage based on start locations?
