Is there any mod that attempts to make the game run faster as a whole?
I know there are single-unit graphics mods and such, but one of the problems I have with Civ 5 is that although I can run it on medium-high graphics, it's still slow later on in the game even if I turn down the graphics to minimum. It runs fine in strategic view though, so I assume the main problem is with the game's graphics.

Is it during a war that you notice the slowdowns? Have you tried enabling quick combat?

I meant the overall slowdown that seems to develop over the course of the game.

Sure, I notice it slowing down, but the game certainly has to process a lot more information as the game progresses. How bad is it? Is your PC underpowered? You probably want a Core 2 Duo 3 GHz (or Phenom II X3 2.5 GHz) at the least, with 3 or 4 GB of RAM. Have you tried running both DX9 and DX11 to see if it makes a difference?

It's decent, AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 240 2.80 GHz, with 4 GB of RAM, but I've heard that a large part of the slowdown in Civ 5 is the due to the graphics, and I find that it does run quite faster in strategic view compared to minimum graphics settings. Haven't tested much between DX9 and 11 since it's quite annoying to switch between them, and after starting up DX11 and finding that I could handle it I couldn't go back.

But what's the complaint exactly? Taking a long time between turns? Slow updates scrolling around the map (in which case, your video card may be the culprit)?

That's strange because my crappy laptop that can only run it on minimum settings actually has less between-turn lag than it does with Civ IV. I only notice a slight increase as the game progresses.

I've never tried to play a game on a huge map with tons of civs though.

Do you play on huge maps?
