Somewhat new owner of PTW... tried MP on Game Spy the other night and it was rather fustrating. 8 attempts at games and 8 failures. Host or other players drop, one crash and unable to collect players again to restart.

Is there a better way to get a MP game going?

Thanks

It's possible to have a stable IP game. I would definitely recommend that over gamespy.

Because something has ALWAYS happened to a Gamespy game for me.

I am a relatively new owner of PTW, and have just recently tried the multiplayer feature. I have not been able to successfully save and resume a multiplayer game and the manual is notably silent on the topic. Can someone help me out here so that my friends and I can continue a game over more than one session?
Many thanks to anyone with info on this.

IP is really no different than GameSpy. GameSpy just hooks up the players - after the game starts its all direct IP anyway. IP connect just allows people to connect to a server without using the standard GS interface.

It takes me on average 1/2 hour to connect - several attempts. I wish it were possible to know if everyone had the right patch and had a non-corrupted environment prior to start, but doesn't seem that Firaxis has that capacity in this game as of the current rev.

Here's a suggestion. I've just started playing ladder games - cool thing about ladder is that if you quit, then you get a lower rank - so people are more willing to stick it out. Also, ladder players vouce for other ladder players so you know right away if someone has the right patch. Lastly, most ladder players are experienced enough to know when their environment has become corrupt and they need to reload the app or reboot (by the way folks, if you are unsure if you have a corrupt environment or not, just reboot and save us all the trouble : ).

One very active ladder is at: www.myleague.com/civ3ptw but there are others as well.

BTW, GS is a great chatroom to find games in even if they end up being Direct IP games. I know many folks have the GameSpy chat open via the browser java applet and while they're pulling together a game.

Yes.

Btw, the best ladder I've found to be out there is http://www.the-battlefield.com

Whats great with this ladder is that they don't only play elim games like myleague does. And they have alot of tournaments and leagues running wich is great.

I also think its now the biggest civ3 ladder out there with close to 500 members.

Ah well who cares, civ mp rules :D

Lets clarify a few ladder misconceptions here. The BattleField may be a fine organization, but it is a multi-game organization, with a total of 609 "listed" players in all the games. This doesn't mean that they are all active players as Battlefield doesn't purge inactive accounts. There Civ3 League only has 16 players.

Civ3players Ladder, www.myleague.com/civ3players , on the other hand is dedicated to just Civ3 PTW. We have 270 active Civ3 players. They are all active current players as Cases purges inactive accounts after 23 days to keep the ladder players playing.

Civ3players is much more than "only Elim games", the Ladder is open to any type of game imaginable, in fact our Epic game format which is a long diplomatic game with no war for the first part, have become very popular. You can see this from the posts in our Epic games forums in our Ladder board at www.civ3players.proboards2.com .

Our outstanding group of Tournament Directors are running many different tournaments every week. And are very popular.

I have nothing against healthy competition, just false advertising.

Come out and enjoy the fun on the Ladder.
