Upon getting it home I was dismayed to be UNABLE to install the game on two out of three of the computers in our family. All machines come well within spec for the game.
(system details from DXDIAG of the main PC enclosed here)
SYMPTOMS:
Upon placing the DVD disk in my relevant disk drive, the PC will NOT read the disk at all. The read light goes on and off as normal, but no read is successful. Any attempt to open MY COMPUTER and `explore` the relevant drive (`E` drive in this case) results in a system crash recoverable ONLY by cold re-booting of the pC, with the dreaded one finger 5 second salute.
This is repeated on our second machine, but NOT on the childrens machine.
I therefore conclude that the disk itself does not appear to have any known manufacturing errors.
Further investigation and reading of various other forums in an effort to discover what the problem might be, leads me to suspect the efficacy of Dvd re-writers as the problem? I read that the disk protection might be one that is so stringent as to actually handicap any use at all?
Do software disk drives affect the game running at all?
Certainly the two machines that give me problems are utilising dvd burner/readers while the one that can apparently install the game without error is equipped with just a simple DVD reader. Am I correct in this assumption?
Obviously I wish to play the game on my fastest most specced out machine only.
Whatever the problem I seek an early imminent solution, lest I lose the option to return the game in a few days and get my money back.
When complaining to a member of the games Tech support it was noted that I do have the most current graphics drivers, but it was also conceded that it is doubtful that was the problem here.
