Game without AI

Is there any possible way I can play singleplayer without having the stupid AI playing with me like they did in Civ4? It won't let me delete the last AI in the blasted list, and I'm not interested in playing with other AI in this game just like in Civ4.

Not sure what the point of playing is if you have no one to play against and no way to win except by time. But...

Try playing multiplayer hotseat with two human players and no AIs and just play against yourself.

I like playing by myself. I just like "city building". Not really interested in wars and other crap. Not really liking this game.

There are several ways to make the game so easy that concern about the AI becomes an non-issue. I believe that on Settler difficulty the AI will never declare war on you. Or you can use mods, or build your own map with Worldbuilder and put what you want where you want.

Other option is to play a hotseat game where you control all the players.

Use the "multiplayer" choice. Choose "hot seat". Put in two (or more) civilizations and switch back and forth playing both of them....

As others have suggested, it isn't currently possible. Seems like it should be, though. Surely can't be much more than a quick fix. Hopefully they'll change it.

I hear Simcity is lovely this time of year.

I love Simcity and play it regularly, but that's a much narrower focus in scope. Simcity is about developing single cities and regions. Even in custom maps, the regions don't really get beyond 28x28 kilometers. Your computer would have a hard time handling any larger.

Civilization has a much larger global scope. You might not be able to detail individual cities, but you can spread across continents and seas in a way that SC4 can never allow. Simcity is for developing cities. Civilization is for developing empires.

Like the OP, I've sometimes played Civ4 with no other AI present. It's pretty relaxing and you can either focus on development to your hearts desire, or test out new strategies without the threat of Montezuma invading you at a moment's notice. Different people like different things.

I am surprised though that you can't play without the AI in Civ5. You can remove all the citystates, can't you? I would have thought they'd allow you to remove the other civs entirely as well

Civ 5 has no ai.

I think it has some limited random number generator to decide if computer controlled player declares war, and how many units to suiside a turn. That's about it though.

There is reason for the developers to even have consider something like this. Civ 5 is not a city building game. Perhaps you should try Caesar IV or something.

I was being facetious. The game has no challenge whatsoever without AI civs. Just play on settler, the AI won't mess with you.

I know you were. I decided to run with it anyway.

Sometimes it's not about the challenge. Sometimes you just want a relaxing game now and then, just you and a big world to colonize. No harm there.

What you choose to do as a consenting adult in the privacy of your own home is up to you. As long as I don't have to hear about it on the Internet :D
