Every time I run civilization 3 the atari logo runs, then he screen turns black for a second, then I return to my desktop. I have all the necissary requirements including directx9.b. I have updated me video and sound drivers. I have tried re-installing the game. I have even tried editing the ini. file so the movies don't play, all to no avail. Someone please help me.

Do you have the disc in the CD-drive?
Find the refresh rate of your monitor. It could be that Civ3 is changing the refresh rate when it changes the screen resolution. Then find your conquests.ini file in your conquests folder, and add the line Refresh=XX, where XX is the refresh rate of your monitor.

I had the same problem, but it sorted itself out when I installed the latest patch. You've probably done that anyway, but give it a go if not.
