Hi. I just installed Civ 4 and when I tried to start it a box came up saying 'Please insert the correct cd-rom and select OK and restart application'. I had disc 2 in the slot. I tried putting it in both slots, but both had the same result.

If I just insert the disc and try to get it to start that way instead of double clicking on the desktop shortcut, a box comes up that has civ4disk2(D: ) (or E: depending on what slot I put it in) at the top. In the box is a little icon with 'data 3' beside it.

Could you please help me. Please be very basic and clear. Thanks very much.

Have you tried putting the other disk in? Some of the CD's were mislabled when printed.

Thanks very much Tony. That solved the problem.

However unfortunately I seem to have another problem. There was little or no sound on the introductory video and when it came on it warbled. I don't know what the video is supposed to look like, but it might have been a bit slow.

When I tried the Tutorial, what I presume was Sid just had a set of red teeth and a red Firaxix label in the bottom right corner. I could see the city centre square but the other squares were black except for numbers and icons (maybe coins, shields and food). The sound seemed to be OK.

Does this mean that my computer doesn't have one or more of the requirements to run the game properly? What might the requirement(s) that I'm lacking be? Could I get these things installed in my computer at a computer store?

Thanks.

You will be running V1 straight from the box. Load Patch V1.52 (menu option on Forum home page). http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/patch/

Make sure you are using the latest video drivers from (usually NVidia or ATI)
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_81.98.html
https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27

Check your hardware spec against this - in particular Civ IV will not run on intergrated graphics (IGP) - ie you need a video card not on-board graphics chips

If still issues please post your dxdiag (Start Button - click - select run - type dxdiag - press enter - wait a min - select "save all information" - note where you stored it - post using the 'go advanced ' button below as an attachment together with all perceived symptoms no matter how small
