I am 95% sure about which I am getting. What are you getting and why?
Me:
Getting: GameCube
Reason: Seems to be the best of the new systems for easy to play games for when friends or family members visit. I have my computer for the more involved games like Civ3, etc.

none of them!
Every since that 4 hrs of Quake e1m6 with 11 other ppl I am completle removed from anything that uses a TV for visual output and a pad mainly for input ;)

But I played on every console so far (including jap. GameCube and US x-box) at the local import store or friends.
And I must say the x-box kicks ass! :goodjob:

I both Agree and Disagree with PaleHorse...

For one, I already own a PS2, and have had one for about a year. I also own three computers (two desktop and one laptop).

Like Palehorse, I have the computers for my "in-depth" games, and spend most of my time on the computer...

As for my PS2, I have it for two reasons... it is better for multiple people and when friends come over (of course my computers are on a lan, and nothing beats head to head deathmatches), but nothing beats a PS2 for sports or fighting games... one other thing, my PS2 also doubles as an extra and portable DVD player.

None of the above pertain to the Gamecube, which is where I disagree with PaleHorse... first of all, it uses minidisks, and cannot be used for DVDs... secondly, as the Gamecube is SQUARELY focused at teenie-boppers for games, it will be releasing a lot more Mario/Zelda/Pokemon games then it will ever release Dead or Alive, Twisted Metal or Madden 2002... frankly I'm well past my Pokemon stage (never had one actually). PS2 is more for the older crowd than the Gamecube... as for the XBox, it's more a cross between a PS2 and a Computer... I already have a computer, so I think I'm served best with the PS2.

game cube if anything.

2 reasons:

1) it is cheaper. the 200 dollar machine is 100 bucks less than its main competitor, the xbox.

2) Nintendo has been trustworthy. And like Wolf stated above, it's aimed at a younger audience. Now, even though I don't consider myself in that range I would however like to experience some new games with old characters whose names are symbolic to Nintendo itself.

I personally don't consider the PS2 and XBox to be competitors with the Gamecube at all.

I really think that would be like trying to compare the target audience of G.I. Joe action figures with Barbie dolls. Yes, they're very similar, but have VERY differant marketing strategies.

The same can be said for the PS2/XBox vs the Gamecube... I think the PS2 and XBox are direct competitors, both coming in at the same price, and both offering very similar features and very similar games, targeted at the same market demographic.

Gamecube on the other hand, is clearly in a differant class all-together... you will not see many (if any) adult-oriented games on this system... almost everything will exclusively be bent on the "cuteness" or young audience factor... Mario's, Pekachu and Donkey Kongs are hardly the same target audience as a Twisted Metal or Resident Evil and John Madden.

These games are targetted for completely differant demographics... now argue the PS2 over the XBox, but the reality is, the Gamecube is NOT a competitor of either of the above, nor vice-versa.

I assure you Nintendo will bring back the Resident Evil series onto its new console. Now, even though I agree most Nintendo products are "cuter" than its competition, I believe the company will not limit its own market by strictly going after that "cuter" category of games and audience. In fact, I believe the Nintendo GameCube will most likely follow the steps of its older generation consoles; particularly the Super Nintendo system, in terms of fame, and popularity.

i'm getting a Nintendo GameCube and a Playstation 2 :) PS2 for x-mas and i'm getting the GC with my own money. when i get to college i'm getting a top of the line desktop computer and a laptop :)

My choice is the Gamecube. First off I'm a longtime Nintendo fan and the franchises alone would be reason enough, but if you look at the previous console war Sony won because they had the cheapest and easiest system to design games for, which means lots of games for it and hopefully more quality games. This is the way that Nintendo has set themselves this time where as Sony has made a nightmare to program for and if M$ is losing $150 per console you know they're planning on making that up by shoving 1st Party games down our throat and the only three first party games I can think of that Microsoft has are Halo (which will be their saving grace), Asheron's Call (I'll take Everquest or PSO over that anytime), and Flight Simulator (which I can't see any reason to ever play on a console instead of a computer). If that's not good enough let's try these reasons:
Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil redone, Resident Evil 2 redone, Resident Evil 3 redone, Resident Evil: Code Veronica redone, Resident Evil 4, Mario Sunshine, Super Smash Brothers Melee.
Oh and the DVD thing, I have a DVD player in my computer and my Video Card has TV Out so I can't really think it a big deal, anyway who the hell buys a console to watch movies? (Besides FF fans;))

btw, FF11, the on-line RPG game will be released for Gamecube as well as PS2. The squaresoft/Nintendo relationship has always been a strong one, so I suspect the FF series for ages to come will stay on the Cube.

First, I'll get.... a life :D No kidding. Then a wife, and then a comp. No console for me. That's for brainless clik maniac people. I am civilized so....
Plus neither Hotline, nor DC exist on console, therefore, no P2P soft, no buy :p

Oh, in case you wonder, yes, it was a totally provocative sentence towards console owners... :D

You, civilized?..

Interesting. I am not in the market..but I am suprised the Gamecube is sooo popular. I would have guess PS2 or Xbox. PS2 for the libary and the XBOX because developers are loving it. Gamecube I hear is more geared towards kids. ALthough I hear the Star Wars game is awesome.

I must be completely out of it. If I went to the store to get one..I would have walked out with one of those 2.

You have to remember that the members on this forum tend to represent the thinking people who will take time to decide which console to get but most PS2 owners seems to get caught up in the hype. I do think the X Box looks good but how much different from a Pc will it really be and the special releases should come out on the Pc eventually...

Huh,

Well..it will be interesting to watch the outcome of the battles between the 3. I will sit it out and play the occasional game on the PC. One of them will fall for sure.

Theoretically it should be the X box because it takes the dreamcast's place in the market but it will have more PC players likely to buy it. The PS2 has already sold loads so it is guarenteed to be successful unless the unexpected happens. So maybe the Game cube will do the worst because it will only keep its loyal fans. They could all do well though...:crazyeyes

With the prez encouraging ppl to spend spend over here in the states they all just might do well. The only problem I am having is finding a place that carries a GameCube! There are plenty of X-boxs here but not a GameCube in sight. From what I was reading it should have been the other way. I also didn't think that 100 dollars was all that much of a difference at first but when I got to thinking about the extras I would get with the GC over X-box for the same price it finally sunk in. Plus, you need to spend 40 extra bucks for the DVD remote?!?! I can get a DVD player for 50$ after rebate around here, or 70$ straight, without having to wait for a rebate. I just need to find a damn GC system so I can play Super Monkey Ball! :D
