Is there any interest here in starting a minigame similar to the RPG we had running in DG2. For those who weren't there here to participate in it, it was basically a little game were people could purchase land, use it to accumulate gold, and use that to as they wished. The economic part didn't work so well, I think (something about gold continually entering the system and hardly ever leaving didn't make it so important), but I think we could try the things again.
As I've thought about it, land is bunched into groups of three to five tiles and sold while at the beginning of the game, it would be given away for free, representing people claiming unpopulated land. The tiles can't be seperated again. Additionally, since the 5BC will limit our land area, we'd break from prior game tradition and hand out land outside Fanatik in-game borders.
Land revenue would be derived from totaling up the total number of food, commerce, and shields produced by the indivdual tiles (thus a little incentive to try to get your land improved
). The money would be used to raise and maintain troops, build and maintain certain buildings on pieces of land (maybe fortresses, watchtowers, markets, castles, palaces, etc.). A nice smattering of random events would keep money constantly moving in and out of the economy, as well as a King (played by a manager) who acts as a deus ex machina that'll make requests for gold and troops to serve for him, with the power to punish dissenters.
We could also hand out titles of nobility, and arrange vassalage of one player to another. Titles would come with additional land and additional responsibilities. To encourage establish player nobles to take newer players under their wings as vassals, armies could gain bonus by being commanded by actual players, as well as gain some economic bonuses.
Enough ranting of ideas - nothing will get off the ground without interest. Is there anyone interested in devoting some time to a game like this? Please state if it would be a little time (like an occasional lurker), a lot of time (an active player), or a heck of a lot of time (manager role for the game). Any takers?
