It felt somehow really bad when one asteroid destroyed one of your towns, by the end the map was a melting pot of craters, and that is only ONE kind of Apocalypse... that is.. FIRE...
before that there was WATER apocalypse, raising seas, by it was not like huge Tsunamis covering the face of the planet but the Mt- Everest... it just flooded plain tiles and that's it...
The other kind of Apocalypses we know of are WINTER, or ICE, dark skies, no sun... and I still miss one???

I think the old Alien ships in SimCity beaming down laser beams were quite an attraction... these could be replaced by OTHER kinds of asteroids, like COMETS... with fire tails that would vapourize everything in their path, creating desert, nanodiamonds, glass shards, and maybe give birth to a NEW water source as many miths told us???

There's all kind of different creative approaches that could be added-subracted...
That's interesting, I didn't play apocalypse long enough to see all those different types of destructions from different elements.

I think the 'other apocalypses we know of' is meant in a generic 'These are other types of Apocalypse in different cultures that come to mind now'. Of course, there are many more, like undead, plague of illness, animals going rampant, and more.

Most of these topics just feel like streams of consciousness with fanatics trying to frame the discussion so that it becomes a coherent thread.

In Civ VI, the only world-ending events we had were meteor impacts, and major flooding. I don't think it was "just flooded plain tiles" since it could destroy whole districts and even cities. It might not have shown it as graphically as a disaster movie like 2012 or The Day After Tomorrow, but they were extremely impactful from the POV of a Civ citizen.

An ice age could be cool where migrants would move from hit cities to less-affected cities, diminishing happiness in the cities they go to. But it all feels like it would be a gimmick.

For me, I barely saw flooding in Civ VI because when I understood how to counter it I always focused on building flood barriers, and I never saw the meteor strikes unless I deliberately held off victory to see it happen. I don't think they were implemented as well as they could have been.

Also, a comet is not a 'different kind of asteroid' as far as I'm aware.

Edit: "asteroids are rocky, comets are icy, and meteors are much smaller and are the shooting stars that you see up in the sky" < source.
