GeForce 5700LE 256 mb and its very laggy

There was a thread where a person forced the game to use 1.1 pixel shaders but I can't find it right now. Download the newest drivers and download Rivatuner. http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=163
Force pixel shader 1.4 and vertex shader 1.1. I can't download Rivatuner myself right now so I can't tell you much more. This should give you much better framerates.

I find that it also helps to clean out the cache folder periodically, and especially after altering your graphics settings.

The downgrading to pixel shader 1.xx (which forces the game to run in directx 8 compatibility mode) works for me too, and I'm a GeForce FX5200 user. You can also disable it completely but the terrain would look super bright and ugly. This workaround does seem to make the map scrolling and movie clips a bit smoother, although the image quality turns out to be not as good as it was before (this is quite noticable especially on the leader movie clips). However, this still doesn't solve the memory management issues, so some part of the game is still pretty laggy for me, especially when acessing various advisor screens. But at least I can scroll through the whole map without worrying about freezing the game now. :)

But yes I can confirm that forcing the game engine to run with directx 8 mode works wonder for me. Maybe Firaxis should put an option in the graphics menu so that the game can run with lower pixel shader resolution. I recall the game Farcry has this kind of option for those having performance issues.

Btw could it be the CTDs and lags on higher end GPU card like GeForce 6600 and etc is because they're not having sufficient power to process all those eye candies? I recall a thread here (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-tech-support&t=538472&p=3) where people are experiencing fps drops in the game World of Warcraft and getting better power supply seems to fix their issues. Just a thought. :)

At this point, I'm desperate to try anything!!! When is that darn patch going to come out anyways? It was supposed to be released this week!

It seems that everyone is downloading the rivatuner... I can't get on the server right now...

...Rolling back the drivers on my geforce fx5200 to 71.89 has significantly sped up CIV4 so far.
