General Knowledge quiz II

Nope.

the writers #2 and #4 are from the two core countries of East-Europe.

As some of you don't probably frequent in OT, I might add that this was jocular reference to two posters who have kept noise of their countries not being part of East Europe.

They've each written novels in more than one language?

#3 and #4 are right! (The hint to Nabokov in the picture is the butterfly, he also researched them, and that species is named after him).

#1 isn't easy to regocnize from his picture. He wittnessed mob burning down a courthouse (or similar) in the 1920s' Vienna, and got spark to write an essay about mass psychology, that's probably his most famous work alongside with his autobiographical trilogy.

They've each written novels in more than one language?

You're almost there! However Conrad and #1 wrote only in one language.

Sofista, I didn't know/remember that Beckett wrote in other languages than English.

Not solely, but that's right enough for me! :goodjob:

#1 is Elias Canetti, who was born in Bulgaria and moved to England and Germany with his family when he was kid. You can read from his book die Fackel im Ohr (Torch in the ear) how his mother taught him German, which was the language he wrote all his works.

#2, Joseph Conrad begun writing at late age and wrote only in English.

#3, Vladimir Nabokov started with Russian, but changed to English at later age.

#4, Milan Kundera, who emigratedd in France in 70s wrote in Czech unil 90s when he switched to French. Unfortunately his last three novels were very French also in their style and content.

All in all, it's very rare that someone writes literature with other language than his/hers native one.

You guys can settle which one of you got it right. I think Fifty was very close in it, but Mise on the other hand gave the right answer.

Is that the one about the boxer who was falsely accused of murdering his wife, or his family or something similar?

the song is hurricane from the album desire. its about a murderer, but i don't remember the whole story.

Is that the one about the boxer who was falsely accused of murdering his wife, or his family or something similar?

The song is called "Hurricane", correct. It is about a (black) boxer who is falsely accused of murdering (I don't think it was his family, I believe it's the employees of a bar-like establishment). The album is indeed "Desire"

Since Tycoonist provided title for both song and album aswell as (some of) the plot, I'll let him have the floor.
