General note to all players regarding submissions:

Last month was the first month that I began the process of collecting the games submitted and trying to help organize them for review. In order to make the process simpler and more streamlined please try to follow the following guidelines when submitting. Fill out the form completely, and please remember that retiring in the game is currently not allowed, nor is it the same thing as a Histographic Loss.

The most important part of the submission is your saved game. All saved games should be in the proper format

nnnnnnnnnnn_xxYYYY.sav

where xx is bc or ad and YYYY is the year and nnnnnnnnn is the layers name them everything will alphabetize nicely for easier cross checking. This makes it easier to set up the files for the result page when the reviews are done as well.

If you have any questions regarding this format please PM me and I will try to address them. I will correct all of the games submitted up to this point. If you send more than one game in the file please zip them together and label them in the zip file as above.

Thank you in advance, for your help. :)

Do I understand correctly that the old format is therefore superceded AND, in particular, we should no longer include an identification of the GOTM# in the filename?

I can see some potential for confusion, particularly for those who 'milk'. There are, after all, going to be a lot of 'Aeson_AD2050.sav' files under this system :)

Madscot,

I think Creepster is pretty much on top of things in the incoming file stream. We keep the games seperated into different file folders so that when you look at the big picture the full address of the filenames includes the game identifier in the folder name.

I believe that we should encourage players to open an appropriately named file folder on their hard drive for each game and then store save files for the games in the correct folder. This will avoid any self inflicted headwounds that may result from overwriting and erasing your own game files because you try to keep them all in a big pile in one folder. I use my own file naming system in a folder and then just gather copies of the files that I need to submit before renaming them as cleanly as possible for the volunteers who have to compile the results.

We do still have some concern about the potential for mistakes where a player would accidentally submit a game for the wrong gotm particularly right in the period of crossover as one game is ending a new game is starting. Our first check of the games upon receiving can catch most of these and hopefully within the next month we can look at some of the submission rules and deadlines to fix this issue to make it easier on the players as well as the staff.

For now, please work closely with creepster and the other players to help us be consistent with the filenames. If you saw what a directory full of 400 savefiles looked like when people randomly begin with their name or sometimes "GOTM" and sometimes the date, then you would understand why this is important and how it will help us avoid missing any submissions in the long run.

Just so you know, this post and what is on the submission page are two different things. I submitted my first game last night and used a mix of both formats....with name first (as that's going to be the most unique of all the identifiers, IMHO).

Thanks for the update on the conflicting information. I will correct it.

opsss, submited already using the old style. Hope you can correct it, Creepster. Sorry for the inconvenience.

watorrey, I'll look into it. There have been a couple of them like that. It will not affect your submission though.

RufRyder, we are trying to standardize the submissions for easy filing when we set up the web pages. If you could be more specific I'll try to answer. If you like PM me.

I submitted the turn before i won... should i resubmit the game w/ the turn after?

I don't quite understand why you need the turn after winning. Is there a discussion about it somewhere?

The reason that we asked for the game to be submitted after it was won, is because it was not always obvious how the player won the game. Some games had multiple ways of winning while others we honestly could not see how they won it. It just makes it easier to process the game.

Looking at your submission it should be easy to verify the victory that you submitted, so at this point I would not worry about it. If we have any questions on how to finish the game we will send you an e-mail.

Pro pain I will get that corrected. There are a few other changes I want to make on the page as well, so we will make the changes all at once. Thank you for pointing that out. It will be corrected shortyly.

Mazarin, I am in the process of trying to re-word things so that it is not so confusing. Don't worry you would not have your game disqualified for that. I got your submission and your results are being processed. Thanks for playing. :)
