The strat is to take advantage of your racial trait and collect a few free barb units early on to found the nucleus of an army. You will want to acquire 4 or 5 units that are buffed by the honor tree. This should be enough to enslave a nearby civ, not a CS. Don’t ever attack those, once you have a few points in Honor and a decent army with a General, begin the Patronage tree to nurture strong relations with whatever flavor of CS you happen to need at the time; units, culture or food. I might suggest a culture CS first to help get some much needed Social Policies.

Money – All those units are going to cost gold, so make sure you can build trading posts in Berlin as soon as the income rate starts to dip. Save all your money until such time as you can afford to buy an alliance with a CS.

Berlin – Your capitol, make sure you have decent food and production. Make a scout first to learn the lay of the land and maybe pickup some weapons from huts. Go ahead and chop out a barrack before you make any real ‘German’ soldiers. German literally means ‘spear-man’. Go for Mining and BW fairly early and make a German spear or two. Then get a few Horse units going if you can. Rely on Brutes for the rest of the army.

Expansion – You don’t want to get too many cites too early because that will impact the rate of Social Policies. Hold yourself to 1 if you want to claim a decent piece of land or block expansion.

Attack – Choose a victim. Choose someone close, attack your way to his capitol, brutally killing everything in your path. You have 4-5 units (Example: warrior, spear, 2 brutes, archer, chariot) and a General from Warrior Code with Discipline. He has a rabble. Raze all cities, make a puppet from his cap. Rinse and repeat until you control the continent. Always improve your unit quality, not unit count. Delete old units and replace them with fresh modern horse troops from Berlin.

Attack again to kill your next neighbor. Raze all expansions, enslave cap. Continue along this line as long as it remains profitable. Found real German cities in empty places to claim all the luxuries on your side of the world.

Accumulate gold and foster relations with whatever CS are in your continent. Plan on attacking early using Brutes (First Reich), then attack with Landsknecth (Second Reich), and finish up with Panzer (Third Reich).

I am trying this now on Prince standard continents and it worked as described to kill Japan! I razed one city and enslaved his cap. Next on my block is Rammy and I hope to whack him before my Brutes go out of style. He currently has 3 cities, but I have 2, plus Japan’s cap (not sure if its Kyoto or Tokyo) plus I am allied with a cultural CS. Berlin can produce horseman.

Multiple times win on duel+marathon when playing Germany - even on King which was easy.

The is one rule: "Barb Camp Harvesting".

Scout area and harvest, harvest... Having few brutes, archers or spearmen should destroy any oponent.

Envision that this would be "patched" not to be so overwhelming option for germany :P

Brutes do not go out of style, they become swordsmen, especially after your honor tree halves the cost of upgrading them.

I tried basically this strategy (although I didn't add the wrinkle of destroying all an opponent's city but his capital) the first night I got the game. I call it the "Brute Force" Approach.

Played some more until 740AD. Killed all 4 AI on my continent. Kept only the caps; Japan, Egypt, Arabia, USA, all dead. Was able to pick up several Brutes in the begining and then was able to pickup spearmen. Upgraded Brutes and spears for the final assault on Washington. Got 3 GGs.

I think my civ is in good order and am ready to start sailing, but there are some large distances between cities. I need harbors not roads. The Patronage part of the strat is not strong. At least not yet.

This game ended at 1795 AD with domination. Sailing revealed Russia, Rome and Turkey on the other continente.

Rome helped me by taking Turkey's cap. Then Russia and Rome started going at it. I walked over a weakened Russia to take Moscow with medival and muskets. Then I started on Rome and took then out with rifles lancers and cannons. They had a lrge number of troops including muskets.

A few militiaristic CS allies late in game provided me a few much needed units. Barb camps continued to spawn all through the game and remained a possible source of troops and money.
