Getting entertainers

I recently got Civilisation for DOS, and I read in the rules about converting population into entertainers, scientists and tax collectors. How do I actually do this?

If I click on the population panel of the city screen when the city is small I get a message telling me the city is too small, but if the city is big enough nothing at all happens!

Can anyone help?

That's not quite right Mikoyan. What you do Pix is this.

Let's suppose you have a city with no entertainers, tax collectors or scientists. On the central city map, choose which square you want to stop producing food, shields and trade and click on it. You'll see an entertainer appear in place of one of your normal population. If your city is big enough, you can click on that entertainer and it will change to a tax collector, another click will change it to a scientist, and a third will give you your entertainer back. You can click a free square on the central map at any time to put your person back to work on that square.

(Note that if all your population is working on the land and you click on a free square on the map, Civ auto-arranges your workforce to what it considers best - which may or may not be what you want.)

Thanks Stormerne, that works.

I could find in the manual how to swap between entertainer, scientist and tax collector, but there was nothing abut clicking on the map.
