Getting FFH2 to work with Vista

I'm a bit worried about my laptop. It's ordered and on the way. One small hitch in the whole ordeal, even directly requesting it they won't install XP on it. So I'm left with Vista Premium SP1 and was wondering if anyone else had any tips to ensure a smooth installation.

I'm reading up on disabling UAC just in case. I'm guessing that the best course would be to install it as admin but then again I suppose I SHOULD install it normally... but where's the fun in that?

Cheers,

I recently played with my brother's computer since I am back home for a bit and wanted to introduce him to FfH. Since he has Vista I was able to play with a bit of the annoying features.

You do NOT have to disable the UAC to use FfH from what I have seen so far. Everytime that you run it, you must right click on the shortcut and select "Run as Admin" instead of simply "Run" to get the program to go properly.

If you ever decide you wish to Mod, then you have to go through the files which you desire to change and modify the security settings (note: this might also work for the shortcut, haven't tried it). Right click on the file you wish to alter, select properties, go to the Security tab, now change the settings so that general users have authorization to do all the actions listed (mostly alter files is what you need). Once you do that it should be completely moddable. I didn't check if you can apply these settings to a folder and have it modify all of the files contained within, but if that is the case then the best option is to set the security settings for "Fall from Heaven 2 032" folder and be done with it.

I get it to work fine with the current build without the UAC changes, but patch j breaks it. It lets me get all the way through picking a world and a nation, but when it attempts to launch the game it stops working.

Edit: It looks like I have the same problem as in this thread. Even though the game insisted (in both bts and ffh2) that I had 3.17, I re-downloaded the 3.17 patch and installed it again, now ffh 2032 with patch j runs fine.
