Getting great scientist asap?

What are the best ways to do this (micromanagement or whatever). I play mostly small maps with one or max two cities available before starting wars so academy is a huge boost. Only prob is that I seem to get those scientist quite late.

All tips welcome!

Research scientific techs (alphabet -> literature) so you can build a library which allows you to have a scientist per city. Build a scientific wonder (Great Library) eventually. I know these are not quite 'fast' or early, but the best I can think of. In my games, I actually quite often get great scientists...

PS: Either gamble and have other scientists/wonders than scientif ones in the city or go the safe way and have only scientist specialists in that city.

The easiest way is to beeline for Lierature and build the Great Library. That gets you 8 GPPs a turn going towards a Great Scientist (2 from the GL and 3 from each of the free scientists). Assuming it's your first GL and you have no other GPPs in that city, that'll get you a Scientist in 13 turns.

If you already have GPPs in that city going towards something else, you can add another scientist specialist or two for a few turns to up your odds of generating the Great Scientist.

Actually, there's a much easier way which I almost always use right now.

Build a Library. Run 2 Scientist specialists, in either 9 (if Philosophical; and in this case you don't even need the second specialist on the last turn) or 17 turns you'll get your Great Scientist.

I would probably just go the library/specialist route myself, rather than build the GL. Usually, I only really want one or two GS's early on to build Academies in my top commerce cities. After that, I'd probably rather have Engineers, Merchants, or Artists to work with. Building the Great Library nearly guarantees that you'll receive a much greater number of GS's than anything else. They're handy, sure, but not the only thing I want.
